2 Network Name Rossendale Working Effectively Together Event An integrated approach - driven by NHS Healthcare and Children's Social Care……. Geared towards educating the Children and Families workforce and skilling people up with the knowledge and skills in protecting children initially within the locality of Rossendale

3 Network Name Safeguarding Health Practitioners based within Children’s Social Care Our role involves joint working with social workers and fully contributing to assessment & decision making process………… the impact of this joined up approach will be demonstrated by using a case example

4 Network Name Rossendale Working Effectively Together Safeguarding Events Joint multi agency venture began in January 2010 – 3 key representatives To build on the development of successful working relationships Increasing the workforce’s knowledge and skills in protecting children The aim was to develop a multi agency workable model offering a structured approach that could be rolled out to other area s

5 Network Name RWET held 4 times a year Lunchtime period to promote attendance Structured approach Themed, participatory approach Group workshops, discussions and feedback

6 Network Name RWET events The initial event was attended by 41 representatives from different agencies including: Health Visitors, School Nurses, Learning Disabilities, Midwives, Sexual Health, Practice Nurses and GPs, Children's Social Care, Schools, Children’s Centre's, Children and Parenting Support Services, Police, and Voluntary Services, example: Home-Start and Domestic Abuse Services

7 Network Name 39 representatives attended the event held on 14th September 2011 to gain knowledge in respect to the Early Prevention and Intervention Strategy Other themes covered: Sexual Exploitation, Honour Based Violence and Forced Marriage, Risk Assessment and SCR's, the Outcomes for Children in Child Protection and information on organisational change

8 Network Name EVALUATIONS … Evaluations demonstrated high level of satisfaction in respect to delivery, focus and participation "listening about the roles of other professionals, including their views & experiences … ” "informative way of updating knowledge, to pass to my team…” "good opportunity to network" "the forums were essential "

9 Network Name Simplistic Workable Model Training package that included: Terms of reference Minutes from planning meetings Agenda Evaluation Certificates (Level 3 training)

10 Network Name SUCCESS … RWET events are still being held demonstrating sustainability The event has been rolled out to another locality – PWET was launched in October 2011 Key representatives committed to working together

11 Network Name Role of the Safeguarding Health Practitioner based in Children’s Social Care

12 Network Name Integrated approach … Strengthening Multi Agency Working Sharing skills & expertise contributing to improved quality of assessments Development of in depth knowledge of each agencies roles Effective, timely communication between agencies Resulting in improved outcomes for children, young people and families

13 Network Name Case Example … A referral was received early into CSC October 2010 from health requesting an unborn assessment Mother 18 years of age History of involvement with CSC Learning difficulties Emotional, social and behavioural difficulties Alcohol misuse and associated anti social behaviour Father 34 years Extensive alcohol and drug misuse Criminal history over a 14 year period, no offending behaviour since 2009

14 Network Name This case was allocated to a social worker and a safeguarding health practitioner due to the complex health issues involved and how these will likely impact on the parent’s ability to care for their child

15 Network Name Integrated working … Joint completion of section 47 Core Assessment & future care planning for unborn child This involved working with the parents, learning disability service (LDS) midwives, health visitor, young people's service worker, drug and alcohol service, CAMHS, Children’s Centre and police Child Protection Conference held and child made subject to child protection plan Private fostering arrangement

16 Network Name Working in partnership and promoting parent’s views with support from advocate service whilst at the same time working in partnership with other agencies Flexibility provided with contact arrangements Assessments, support and advice feeding, dressing and bathing baby, safety and child development using pictorial teaching to ensure mother was given an opportunity to learn at her pace and identified level of understanding Mother’s emotional health was addressed with support and advice Father undertook detox & rehabilitation Timetables used to co ordinate all services, assessments etc

17 Network Name Father undertook detox & successful rehabilitation Mother blossomed and developed Positive attachments promoted and developed Gradual integration plan Private fostering arrangement: positive role model Both parents have undertaken measures to try to secure their positive change in lifestyle

18 Network Name With a joined-up approach … The child is now fully integrated into parents care although remains under a CP plan Regular contact with the private foster carer Support has been gradually reduced Father has just enrolled on a course to become a volunteer
