2 3 Aims of Bridlington Children’s Centres To provide an accessible, integrated early childhood service for all parents –to-be and families with young children in Bridlington and the surrounding areas in partnership with colleagues from Health, Social Care, Education, Job Centre and voluntary agencies. To narrow the gap for the most vulnerable families To provide high quality education and care for children from birth to 5, in partnership with their parents/carers East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

3 3 Areas of strength The passion and drive of the leadership, staff, governing body and professional partners which have ensured high quality provision and services (Ofsted Nov 2010) Keeping users safe and protected, and in promoting their enjoyment and achievement (Ofsted Nov 2010) Ability to respond to individual needs e.g. offering 1-1 baby massage for hard to reach families; providing packages of support for families East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

4 3 Key Areas of Development over next 12 months To develop the antenatal pathway for all prospective parents in partnership with midwives, health visitors, Scarborough Hospital and the Honeysuckle Centre Promote and encourage families to further raise their own aspirations, assessing the impact over time that the centre is having on outcomes for adults as well as children To develop the whole centre support package provided for vulnerable children and their families, including unborn babies, that maybe at risk of harm. 5 Area of Development Leadership Team Assess the impact over time that the centre is having on outcomes over time for adults as well as children To lead the development of the whole centre support package provided for vulnerable children and their families, using the “signs of Safety” approach when appropriate, so that – Families are able to develop their own strategies to safeguard and parent their children – robust evidence of work undertaken with the Children Centre is available to support decisions being made about children East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

6 Area of Development Whole Centre To provide an integrated service to support the children and families accessing the 2 year old scheme by Ensuring eligible families are accepted onto the scheme and children settled at the chosen setting Providing package of support to family Working with settings/childminders to help parents/carers understand how they can help their child’s learning and development Monitor progress overtime of child Continue to ensure parents/carers remain engaged by attending parenting courses, basic skills, first aid etc Continue to offer Family Support either through 1-1 case work or through 2 year old scheme key worker East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

7 Area of Development Children’s Centre To develop the parenting courses and support groups offered by Children’s Centre staff and partner agencies, especially East Riding College and Adult Education - assessing the impact they are having on families, adapting and revising the offer to continually increase impact. To ensure parents complete Family Links Course in full with staff offering 1-1 sessions if parents are unable to attend a session. (For Payment By Results parents must attend 80%). To assess impact fully completing course has on families as well as using weekly feedback from participants to influence planning in future weeks within confines of the Family Links set format. To develop bespoke parenting courses for – Step parents – Teen parents East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

8 Areas of Development Children’s Centre Antenatal to 5 month pathway To work in partnership with Health Visitors, Midwives and the Honeysuckle Centre, to develop an ante-natal pathway in the Bridlington area, based on the East Riding Children’s Centre Ante-natal Pathway. To deliver, in partnership with local midwives and the Honeysuckle Centre,a rolling programme of antenatal sessions. East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

9 Area of Development Children’s Centre Offering Family Support service to Children’s Centre users by regularly deploying Family Support workers where groups of parents congregate reducing need for 1-1 cases Parents/carers aware of services available in the community Parents are supported to develop their own strategies to safeguard and parent their children East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

10 Area of Development Children’s Centre Payment By Results To assist Payment By Results Project Manager to set realistic targets and work with partners to achieve them including the increasing the prevalence of breastfeeding at birth and 6 weeks East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

11 Areas of Development Sunshine Nursery To provide high quality education and care for all children based on EYFS documentation, ensuring planning and assessment cycle is used to identify future needs and highlight any children who may need additional support in an area of learning. To develop staff expertise to support vulnerable 2 year olds and enhance the role of the key worker To review routines and structures, in order to establish those which best support children’s learning. 12 Areas of Development Nursery School To monitor progress of vulnerable groups of children, and providing additional support as necessary – Those who have been on 2 year old scheme – Looked After Children – Children on Child protection/Children in Need – Children with SEN East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

13 Areas of Development Nursery School To develop the ways that parents support their children’s learning by – Stay and Play opportunities for parents – Parents evenings – activities sent home for parents to do with children – Regular newsletter to include detailed information about what their children are learning – Sharing “learning journeys” with parents on a regular basis – Hosting events eg Coffee Mornings in partnership with Family Support etc to enable parents to access other agencies within the Children’s centre in a more East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

14 Areas of Development Nursery School To improve the consistency in assessment across all areas of the curriculum – Staff confident in assessing children – Regular moderation undertaken so any difficulties raised and addressed as soon as possible – New staff/supply staff supported so that their assessments are in line with those of other staff – Accurate records kept on the progress of children who were on 2 year old scheme East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington

15 Areas of Development Nursery School To improve outcomes for all children in writing by the end of Nursery. – To improve and enhance writing opportunities for all children especially boys in ongoing provision and across all areas of learning – Children confidently using writing in their play To develop the physical skills required to write by – Providing activities to develop children’s fine motor skills, in order to control mark making tools more effectively – Ensuring all staff are clear about the need to develop these fine motor skills, how they can encourage children directly and how they can communicate this to parents East Riding Children's Centre, Bridlington
