LBJHS MESA Orientation Night School Year

MESA at LBJHS Goal: Encourage, motivate and support students who are planning to study science, technology, engineering or mathematics. With an emphasis to offer a strong support and foundation for socio-economically disadvantage students wanting to attend a four year college right after high school.

LBJHS MESA’s Goals Maintain a 3.5 gpa or better. Earn an A or a B in the CORE Classes: English, Math, Science and History. Maintain 95% attendance or better (You may only be absent 1 day for every 20 days). Participate in the four Fresno State University Saturday Academies. Participate in at least one Project to enter the mini MESA Day Preliminary Competition. Attend one of the College Fieldtrips. Follow all school rules. Do 5 hours of community service per trimester. All 8 th graders take the Explore Test on December 13, 2014.

Major MESA Events Coastal California College Road Trip Nov. 24 th – 26 th Meeting will be held after the Orientation. Cost $ th graders have priority! Catalina Island Marine Institute, April 5-9th, Meeting after the CRT meeting. Cost $275 and 8 th graders have priority! 7 th Grade College Fieldtrip to San Jose State and the Tech Museum TBD 1 st Trimester 8 th Grade Fieldtrip – CSU, Stanislaus, UC Merced and Castle Air Museum – 1 st Trimester Mini MESA Day, Saturday, January 10, 2015 (1 st Level of Competition) at Los Banos Junior High Prosthetic Arm, Saturday, February 7, 2015 (2 nd level of Competition) at Fresno Prelims, Saturday, March 7, 2015(2 nd level of Competition), at Fresno Regionals, most likely be on Saturday, April 4 or 11, 2015 (3 rd Level of Competition) At UC Santa Barbara

Basic Rules Excellent Behavior Follow Dress Code at all times Parents must pick up student from fieldtrips due to sickness and/or behavior. Cell phones may only be used to call parents at the end of the fieldtrip.

MESA Club The club is open to any student interested in being part of MESA. Club meetings: Mondays during break in Mrs. Mascorro’s Room, G107 Club Enrichments: Fridays Afterschool from 3:30 to 4:30. Parents are welcome!

Tutoring Library Tutoring Center starts Sept 2 nd – Monday thru Thursday 3:15-4:15 pm LEAP Program All teachers from 8 to 8:30 and 3:10 to 3:30

Parent Support Support your child in projects and paperwork! Be a chaperone for fieldtrips. Must provide your own transportation. TB Test and Fingerprinting must be done. Be a project mentor: assist with projects. Donate food and/or materials!
