PROBLEM  Please Help! Your teacher is absent, we are starting a new unit and the substitute doesn’t know anything it.  Your job is to find out the characteristics of historical fiction and create an anchor chart to help the substitute teacher.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW?  Why do we use Anchor Charts?  How do Anchor Charts help us?  What makes an Anchor Chart great?

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?

DIRECTIONS  In groups of 4, use laptops to research “characteristics of historical fiction”.  Use at least 3 sources to finalize your list of characteristics, a minimum of 7 characteristics are needed, that accurately describe historical fiction.  Draft an Anchor Chart on lined paper (be sure to have pictures/graphics). Document the resources used to gather information.  Create a final Anchor Chart using chart paper that the substitute can use to explain/teach what historical fiction is.  Be prepared to defend and explain your anchor chart.  You have 30 minutes to gather information and 30 minutes to create your anchor chart.
