 Telling someone what you think about a book.  A book reviewer’s job is to tell the world their expert opinion on the book.  You include what the book is about, main points, but usually they do not give away the ending.  You can tell how the reviewer feels about the book, but you do not have to take that opinion as your own  If you read a book review, you may want to read a few more on that book to get a feel for the book.

 Choose a book you are currently reading or have read  Choose one that interests you and you can form opinions about.  For our book review, choose a fiction story. A fiction story is a story that is made up. The events could happen in some cases but are not actual events!

 What is the book about?  What is the main idea of the book?  Who are the main characters in the book?  Which character did you like the most?  Would you want to read another book by the same author? Why or why not?  Who would like this book? Who would NOT like it?  Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

 First, gather information about the author  Then, write a summary of the book.  Next, start to evaluate the plot, characters, and setting  Finally Write an outline of your book review. It can look like this:

 I. Introduction  II. Summary of the book  III. Setting o A. When and Where the story takes place o B. Brief Description of setting and your comments on it  IV. Characters o A. Main Character 1 1. Appearance 2. Actions 3. Personality o B. Main Character 2 1. Appearance 2. Actions 3. Personality  V. Information on the author o A. Early life o B. What else they have written  VI. Conclusion o A. Who would enjoy this book? o B. My thoughts on the book

 Start by drafting the body.  USE YOUR OUTLINE TO HELP  Then draft the introduction and the conclusion  Don’t worry too much about your grammar and spelling while you draft, you can fix those up later!

 WHEN DO I REVISE? o AFTER YOU DRAFT! o Make sure it is organized well o Make sure you made all the main points you wanted to o Check for grammar o Check for word usage o Check for punctuation and other details

 Complete Unit 4 in the OLS  kmail, file share, or turn in your book review to your teacher by January 16 th.  IF YOU WANT TO SHARE YOUR BOOK REVIEW: o Turn in your report on time o Kmail your teacher telling them you’d like to share your book o She will send you a “Book Commercial” slide to fill out o Return the “Book Commercial” slide to her by Jan. 21 st o Come to class on the 22 nd and be prepared to share!!
