Australia's coat of arms – the official emblem of the Australian Government – was granted by George V in The arms consist of a shield containing the badges of the six states. The supporters are native Australian fauna – a kangaroo and an emu. A yellow-flowered native plant, wattle, also appears in the design. The Great Barrier Reef on the coast of Queensland is a garden under the sea. There are different kinds of fish and coral. Tropical fruit and flowers grow on the beautiful islands. Tasmania is the island south of Australia. It is the came size as England. There are no deserts in Tasmania. It often rains. In the Northern Territory you will find the red heart of Australia. Sydney is the best known place in New South Wales. There are Blue Mountains. They are covered with forests of blue colored eucalyptus trees. Australia is sometimes called the lucky country. One reason is the wonderful riches under the earth:gold, silver, iron, coal and others. South Australia is the dryest of all the states, but is does have Murrey River. The Murrey River was South Australia` s mainroad. Some towns on the Murrey still keep the old river boats, and visitors can ride on them.

History of Australia Australia was inhabited by Aborigines. They came to Australia 40,000–60,000 years ago. In 1788 there were from 300,000 to more than 1,000,000 people. In the 17th century Australia was widely explored. In 1616 there landed the Dutch, and in 1688 the British came to Australia. In 1770 there was a large- scale expedition of James Cook. His life was tragic – he was eaten by the Aborigines. English people came to live in Australia in They were mainly convicts and seamen. Many of them died because of diseases and weaponry. Australia became a part of commonwealth in Australia fought in World War I and II. In 1968 Australia became constitutionally free from British interference. Now it is a leader in Asian and Pacific affairs. Australia wants to give up its British ties and become a republic. But nothing has happened yet.

The population of Australia is about 15 million. Most of the population lives in the cities of the east since the great deserts of central Australia occupy 2 million sqr kilometers. The aboriginal people represent not much more than one percent of the nation’s population but occupy an important place in its culture. After all they’ve inhabited the continent for at least 40,000 years. Some historians even believe that they came here 100,000 years ago.

The Aborigines are the Australian natives that had been living there for thousands of years before the first Europeans came to Australia in the 1600s.

Australians really love nature. They try to protect their nature and their animals.

Australia is home to an amazing range of unique wildlife – some beautiful, some bizarre, but all of it fascinating. There are about 800 kinds of birds, among them the kookaburra, emu, graceful lyrebirds, brilliantly coloured parrots and others. It has many species of animals that are unique. This is due to its long geographic isolation. These animals include kangaroos, lions, wallabies, koalas, dingoes, possums and platypuses. Australian flora and fauna
