Part 2: Your Autobiography The Class is going to do a communication practice exercise. To help us get to know each other better for the next while I want each student to type up & print information about themselves along with a Self Reflection on Movies.

Part 2: Your Autobiography Matching Game Before we share our information we need to talk about the importance of listening. We are going to play matching game to learn about the important points of listening. So Count 1, 2, 3,4 etc. Divide up into groups with 1’s together, 2's together, 3's together & 4's together. Group 1 & 2 will take the yellow cards & Group 3 & 4 will take the white cards. Matching Game. The winner in each group will get 5 extra credit points. 8

Part 2: Your Autobiography Now select a partner. You will share what you have typed with your partners. (Visa Versa) After this pairing and sharing each partner will then introduce their partner to the entire class.

Part 2: Communication exercise: Each of you will share a 1-2 minute informational speech about the other person & Visa Versa.

Communications In Television/Movies we are always communicating in one way or other.

Communications Communication is very active in the realm of TV/Movie Production. Because of its importance we are going to explore this week about Communication & how important it is to us in today's society.

Just what is Communication?

What is Communications Succeeding in getting a desired response. The word communication with its prefix "c-o- m" meaning "together" implies an interaction between speaker and listener. It is two people or a group of people speaking to each other.

Eye Contact Part of having Communication is eye contact. Eye Contact is looking out over an audience or person with your eyes not looking down.

Communication Students communicate in many forms and with many different situations. Such as you will communicate one way with your parents, another way with your teachers and another way with your peers

Why is it important to talk or to speak?

Communicating with other people is important to fulfill a social need.

Can you imagine your life without speech? You could not communicate your message very well to others and it would be a total frustration to you.

Would you have problems communicating if you did not know how to speak? (Why)

Yes, communication would be a challenge. We are communicating everyday of our life in almost everything we do.

Why do we talk?

We talk to communicate & fulfill a social need. Humans need to feel wanted or needed without talking it doesn't give a person the satisfaction they need

How do people improve their talking?

Through repetition: Practice, Practice, and Practice. This is how people learn. That is one of the reasons you go to school is to help you learn how to improve your writing & speaking abilities How do people improve their talking?

Again are they communicating? Can babies communicate?

Yes, babies do communicate to others through crying, smiling, moving of arms & legs.

Can babies talk normally?

No-Speech/talking has to be learned. Just like you as a student today your speaking abilities had to be learned. Yet we take it for granted. When you lose your voice you can appreciate how important it is to communicate.

Again it is through repetition or practice speaking around people. As you practice, just like little children learn, you are able to communicate better.

When you talk generally there are people present, for without talking who needs to speak. What is the social function for speaking?

Now let's see what happens to communication when the same message is sent through a line of students in a chain. You will be given a phrase and let see what happens from the beginning to the end of the line. Communication Line Activity

We learn to talk under social influence this happens in our families, at school, at work etc. The environment we live in can influence our communication.

People gain co-operation and control of others through speaking. Such as the presidential election in 2008 McCain vs. Obama. Each of them were trying to communicate and get control of your vote so they can get elected.

Through the social purpose we want listeners to understand, to feel, to believe in our speech.

What would happen if you said something to someone and they didn't respond but just walked away from you? How would you feel? Did communication still happen?

What does ones talking reveal about a person?

It reveals everything about you. Every time you open your mouth and say one sentence, no matter what the words, you reveal something about yourself.

So finally can someone tell me what communication is all about?

Succeeding in getting a desired response. It is an interchange of ideas a "togetherness" a two way sharing process between individuals or groups of people.

Communicating with other students & people we should work on being positive. William Blake, English poet, painter, and master engraver, has engraved these words into the character of many: As a man is, so he sees. Communication Statement

He's talking about perception - how a person views the world. The word comes from the Latin percipere, which means to grab hold of. So the question of the day is: How do you grab hold of life? The words gave us an impression in your mind and so silently in your mind it is communicating what the TV program or the Movies was about.

Whether it is watching TV or going to the movies or going to the store, at home, traveling in the car, there is always communication taking place. People that you see or talk to are communicating something to you in your mind.

What would happen if we could not talk?

When did the silent movies play? 1900’s-1930’s My own father back in the 1920s & 1930s told me about going to silent movies they were great. We take , faxes, cell phones, computers, palm pilots/black berry/IPODS etc. for granted when it has been with in the last 20 to 25 years that these were brought to the knowledge of the public use. Some of these even in the last 10 to 15 years.

When did television begin? When did we have our first movies? Again all of these have to do with communication. It is so important to us to have all these nice things such as , faxes, cell phones, computers, palm pilots/,I-pods but how did it all start? When did it begin?

When did communication move to television & movies that leads us to our next activity finding out more about how communication & the printed word started and transitioning through today?
