2 IB Learner Profiles  Inquirer  Communicator  Caring  Knowledgeable  Open-Minded  Principled  Reflective  Risk-Taker  Thinker  Balanced

3 Inquirer  inquirer: a person who is an inquirer is curious about the world and researches to find answers to inquiry questions An inquirer loves to learn and discover new things and is a life-long learner.

4 Communicator  communicator : a person who is a communicator is able to share his/her ideas in a lot of different ways A communicator uses words, numbers, drawings and symbols to explain math problems.

5 Caring  caring: a person who is caring thinks about other people, what they think and what they feel A caring person tries to help others whenever she can.

6 Knowledgeable  knowledgeable: a knowledgeable person remembers what he/she has learned and uses that knowledge in many different ways She showed that she was knowledgeable about geography by labeling all the states on a map of the United States.

7 Open-minded  open-minded: an open-minded person listens to the ideas and points of view of other people and knows that it is okay that people believe in different things and think in different ways An open-minded person knows that even though people are all different in some ways they are all alike and it is important to listen to everyone’s ideas.

8 Principled  principled: a person who is principled does the right thing even when no one is looking A principled person has a strong sense of fairness and always does the right thing.

9 Reflective  reflective: a person who is reflective knows what he/she is good at and thinks about these things to make changes in the way he/she acts or works Every day the reflective student reflected on how well he worked in school by writing in a reflection journal.

10 Risk Taker  risk taker: a person who is a risk taker has the courage to try new things and solve problems in new ways To be a risk taker, you must be brave enough to tell others what you think is the right thing to do.

11 Thinker  thinker: a person who is a thinker solves problems and makes good decisions when working alone or with a group Thinkers solve problems in new ways and don’t get discouraged easily.

12 Balanced  balanced: a person who is balanced realize that it is important to have a balance between work and play in life-balanced people eat well and exercise, they know when it is appropriate to talk and when it is appropriate to listen His life was balanced because he completed all of his school work and still had time to play soccer on a team.

13 If any of the things I say might be an example of when someone is an inquirer, say inquirer.  Asking questions  Reading about rockets  Taking a nap  Watching a television show about chimpanzees

14 If any of the things I say might be an example of when someone is a communicator, say communicator.  Sending an email  Not listening during a lesson  Writing a letter  Solving a math problem and showing your work

15 If any of the things I say might be an example of when someone is caring, say caring.  Laughing when someone doesn’t know an answer to a question  Helping someone solve a math problem  Making a new friend  Sharing school supplies

16 If any of the things I say might be an example of when someone shows his or her knowledge, say knowledgeable.  Solving a problem involving area and perimeter  Making up answers on a test  Sharing information about a summer trip with the class  Spelling high frequency (words you use a lot) correctly

17 If any of the things I say might be an example of when someone is open-minded, say open-minded.  Listening to a classmate’s ideas  Reading a story about a child from a different country  Eating food that you have never eaten before  Laughing during a song that is not like the music you normally listen to

18 If any of the things I say might be an example of when someone is principled, say principled.  Walking silently down the hall with a group of your friends  Completing all of your homework each day  Cheating  Letting someone know when they dropped his/her pencil

19 If any of the things I say might be an example of when someone is reflective, say reflective.  Talking to your friend to find better ways to solve a problem  Going home and watching TV and not thinking about what happened at school  Sharing ideas with friends and asking for their thoughts  Writing in a journal

20 If any of the things I say might be an example of when someone is a risk taker, say risk taker.  Raising your hand in class to share an idea  Playing only with friends you’ve had for a long time  Listening to a new type of music  Writing your ideas in a daybook

21 If any of the things I say might be an example of when someone is a thinker, say thinker.  Finding another way to solve a math problem when you get a wrong answer  Looking in a textbook to find information about something you are interested in  Asking a friend for the answer to a problem  Talking with people about the best way to solve a problem

22 If any of the things I say might be an example of when someone is balanced, say balanced.  Eating french fries with every meal  Eating vegetables or fruit at every meal  Participating in games at recess  Studying for a science test

23 TRUE or FALSE  Someone who is an inquirer never asks questions in class.  Someone who is a good communicator shares her ideas with everyone.  A caring person would help you with your homework.  Someone would be considered knowledgeable if they forgot everything he/she learned in fourth grade.

24 TRUE or FALSE  An open-minded person would laugh at strange music.  Teachers can trust a principled student to do what is right when taking a message to another classroom.  A reflective person would think about what happened in school every day.

25 TRUE or FALSE  A risk taker would do his or her best to solve a math problem before asking for help.  A thinker would ask his friend to do his vocabulary activities for him.  A balanced person would read and play outside every day.
