Energy Statistics & Training Office Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre History of the APEC Energy Database Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) was established in 1989 in Australia by 12 founding members (Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the United States); the membership gradually increased to 21 economies by 1998 The APEC EWG (Energy Working Group) was organized in 1990 to facilitate energy-related-trade and investment and maximize the energy sector’s contribution to the region’s economic and social well-being, while mitigating the environmental effects of energy supply and use The Expert Group on Energy Data and Analysis (EGEDA) was established by the APEC EWG in 1991 and was given the responsibility for managing and reviewing the operation of the APEC Energy Database EGEDA has established an energy data collection network and has published the “APEC Energy Statistics” annually since
