 What is your digital footprint?  Who you are online is determined by what you do online  People learn about who you are by what you post online

 Does your digital footprint really represent who you are?  What message are you putting out there?

 Protect your privacy!  Never post personal information about yourself online without your parents’ permission  This includes your name, address, home or school address, phone number, or photo

 Anything you post online can be seen and shared many times.  Anything you post online never goes away—ever—even if you delete it.

 Stop and think before you post something online, or send a text:  Would I say this to the person face-to-face?  Would I want my parents to see this post or text?  Would this post or text hurt or embarrass anyone?

 Follow the rules of netiquette for online posting or texting  Never use texts or posts to argue, threaten, bully, embarrass, say mean things, exclude others, or use bad language  Don’t be rude! Try not to call or text when you are with others

 Never post or text anything pretending to be someone else  If you post anything as “Anonymous” someone will find out it is you  If someone uses your cell phone or posts something on your account, you are responsible—always log out and turn off your phone.

If you bring a cell phone to school, you have to be responsible and follow school rules, or you will face consequences.

Do not use your cell phone to take pictures of any other students on school grounds or at school- sponsored activities, even if they say it is okay

If anyone sends you anything inappropriate, like texts or pictures, never forward them Tell an adult right away—you would want someone to stop it if it were about you Don’t add people to your contact list without your parents’ permission

Get your parents’ permission before ever going on any social media sites, such as: Facebook Tumblr Twitter You Tube

Do not post status updates about where you are or what you are doing Turn off “location services” Don’t post pictures showing your room or your interests Don’t post pictures in inappropriate clothing, such as a bathing suit

Don’t post pictures of your friends without their permission Don’t “tag” people without their permission Think before you comment Know that any pictures you post can be used by anyone –What if you post an inappropriate picture but take it off a minute later? –What can others do with pictures, even ones that are appropriate?

Change your settings to as private as possible, such as “Only Me” or only “Friends” Understand the difference between a Facebook friend and a real friend –What is the difference? Don’t add everyone who “friends” you

Music  Use only legitimate streaming sites, like Spotify, to listen to songs  If you want to download a song so you can take it with you, purchase it  Using sites that offer “free” music to download could result in you and your parents facing fines or lawsuits
