Define your research Qualitative primary audience research Qualitative research enables us to take a better look at what the audience thinks and feels about the product, participants offer more in- depth insights through study groups than simple facts or figures can allow. Utopia isn’t the first of its kind to be shown on TV and therefore it can be argued that it is in competition with other similar shows such as Misfits. Qualitative audience research would allow individuals to be asked questions which may enable the new show Utopia to be made more appealing to the target audience than the other shows already out there. In addition to this, hearing first hand what members of the audience think about the show would allow it to be gaged whether or not the show would have a big enough following to warrant a second season or even a box set. Facebook and Twitter will allow me to see how many fans or followers shows similar to Utopia have. Yahoo Answers, I hope, will allow me to find out what shows people feel are similar to Utopia. I intend to use Youtube to watch adverts or trailers for other shows’ seasons, episodes and merchandise (box sets). The Practical Details I intend to set up a blog for my results and post the videos from each interview, screenshots of the online discussion on Facebook and write an annalistic accompaniment. This would be followed by a short essay concluding my research and my findings.
