NEWSPAPER ARTICLES

The Newspaper Newspapers and the articles contained within provide information on current events and issues, providing comprehensive detailed news reports with background information, interpretation and analysis.

Activity In groups of four, familiarise yourself with a newspaper. Look at how it is laid out and what it contains. Answer the following questions in your book.

1.What is on the front page? 2.How many pages are devoted to each of the following:  International news  National news  Local news  Sport  Whole page advertisements  Classified advertisements  Comics & Puzzles  Letters to the editor 3.What other things are included in your newspaper? How many pages do they take up?

What is the purpose of a Newspaper Article? The purpose of a newspaper article is to provide information on newsworthy topics, this is any event or issue of importance to the majority of the population.

Activity Choose an article from the front page, and another news article from several pages into the paper. Compare them using the following table.
