Double Page Spread Analysis Ellie Twaites

The editor of this double page spread uses a specific colour scheme and continues this through both pages, the colour of the artists top matches the title and the subheadings. Lily Allen is a well known artist and this large picture of her is the main attraction to this page. Her picture dominates the right hand side of the page The title of this double page spread immediately stands out and the different sizes of the letters attracts the audience to read this magazine. All of the letters are in capitals and this shows that the artist Lily Allen is putting her point across whether people like it or not.

This double page spread has a serious side to it. The image is a medium shot/close up shot of Lady Gaga and is properly set up you can see this by the pose she is pulling and because of the costume. On the right hand side of this magazine there are 3 columns full of black text, this would put readers off reading this straight away because of how much text there is, the audience would most likely find this boring. The editor of Q has placed a large red L behind the text. This makes the article look funky and interesting. Obviously this is unusual but you wouldn’t expect anything less is the article is about Lady Gaga! Within the text the different sections are differentiated by a large letter starting off the first sentence. This looks really cool and makes the text easily read. Again Q magazine has followed the convention of having the strip at the bottom with the date, website and page number.

The double page spread is an iconic feature in a music magazine as many people look forward to reading what an artist is getting up to or what they do in their spare time. the double page spread here is mainly occupied with a picture of three middle aged men. The picture of the three men relates to what the magazine is about. The headline is ‘the teenagers’ and the way they are positioned on the bed just shows what teenagers get up to in life. The colour scheme of this magazine shows that the magazine is about boys because the colour blue is a boys colour. On the right hand side down the page there is a section on 3 different bands and a little bit about them, this shows what is featured inside the issue of this magazine. spread and it is very eye catchy. the main article

The main focus to this double page spread is of a concert that took place at Wembly stadium. The bands that played at this concert were HIIM, Machine Head, Mastodon and the main band featured at the concert, Metallica. The text on this double page spread is on a black background which is a convention of metal/rock music which is the type of music these bands are based on. The text is white in colour as it stands out on the black background. The editor of this magazine uses a lot of different pictures this is because it catches the readers attention. The editor of this magazine only sticks to a certain colour scheme. White red and black work well together and the readers will realise that this is also a rock magazine and both the man with the tattoos and there guitars give this away The photos on this double page spread were taken from the concert. Having photos within a magazine from a live event gives the reader a sense of the atmosphere from the concert. The double page spread includes photos of James Hetfield from Metallica and numerous other singers and guitarists from other bands who performed at the concert. The photos show then insensity of the concert as we can see cleary from some of the photos the passion and effort these musicians are putting in. The text in the middle of the page talks about the concert. This text is larger than the other text on the pages in order to catch the readers eye so that their attention is drawn to the story within the magazine. Machine head is written in bold in order to make the name of the band easy to read for the reader and to grab their attention. This is so fans of the particular band maybe more influence to read the story.

The editor of this magazine uses the lead singer of the band as a main focus to this double page spread. The artist takes up the whole of the left hand side page. This picture attracts the readers because the article is about the band the arctic monkeys and fans would read this because they will want to know what the article is about. The magazine colours and layout follow the house style of the magazine with its red/black/white colour use throughout. The headline of the article incorporates both the band name and a quote together, with the name standing out in a bigger font and different colour. A main image fills most of the page and the background is plain to show seriousness and how the focus is only on them and no-one else at this point in the magazine.

The main focus of this double page spread is on a band called 'The Black eyed peas'. This group are a hip-hop group which tells the reader about the type of music presented within this music magazine. The magazine would be intended for people who enjoy this genre of music. The image of each member in this band shows that they are the main focus of this double page spread. The main singer will I am is the main focus of this page. The audience can tell that he is the main singer because all the others are faded out.

The editor of this magazine uses lots of different photos to create an effect on the audience. These are the main feature of this double page spread. These pictures appear to have been taken during live performances, concerts, to give the reader a sense of the atmosphere. The background behind this double page spread is to give the reader information about punk and rock music presented within Kerrang magazine. This particular issues focus is on Avenged sevenfold, a heavy metal band formed in This band is a typical example of what the music in Kerrang represents, rebelliousness. The layout of this double page spread is mainly focused on the photos of the band Avenged sevenfold. There are numerous photos along the bottom of the double page spread and the righ hand side of the page. There is a small section specifically for the text on the double page spread. The text is upon a white background to make the text easily visible for the reader amongst the photos.

The editor of ‘The Source’ magazine uses a large image of ‘The Game’ as their main article The image is based on a dark black background, this is to present him and what his life is about. This also relates to him being scary, the audience can tell That this hip hop artist is scary because of his facial expressions are looking mean, intimidating and his knuckles are almost clenched together which shows his violent attitude to him and rap itself. Plain yet very effective colours are used on this double page spread, white writing on a black background and part of one big quite is in yellow to really catch the readers eye to the key most vital quote of possibly the whole article.
