PRATO NOVESO

HOTEL MONDOLE

A Typical Day 06:45Staff wake up the children and help prepare them for a day on the mountain. 07:30A substantial breakfast is served in the dining room, followed by announcements, including a weather forecast for the day 09:00Children gather in their instructor groups to make an equipment and clothing check before heading to the mountain for the important daily warm-up exercises. Generally, the morning, when the children are more attentive, will be used to introduce new techniques and follow a more structured lesson plan

The Afternoon Session 10:30Brief stop for warm-up drinks and a rest, before continuing the morning’s lesson. 12:00Lunch in a mountain restaurant. Instructors meet with the programme leader and teachers to review how every child is progressing and any changes to the groups, if deemed necessary, will generally be made at lunch time. 13:00After some quick warm-up exercises, instructor groups return to the slopes. Generally, the afternoons will be used to practice techniques introduced in the morning, while discovering the resort’s numerous pistes. 16:00The groups return to the hotel together, where the children will have a hot drink, a cake and some free time. Teachers will be on duty to supervise children and organise suitable activities. They will be accompanied to the small town by a member of DESS staff if they wish to do some shopping.

17:30Optional swimming pool activities will take place for children. These sessions will be fully supervised by DESS staff who have full lifeguard qualifications. 18:30Dinner is served in the dining room, followed by announcements and the daily awards…the famous “ding-a-lings”. 19:30Evening activities begin, organised and supervised by our DESS staff in the main part, although for technical activities, we will fall under the supervision of qualified instructors. Typical activities include swimming, movie night, snow tubing, disco and of course the Snow Fever Italian night. 21:00Quiet time before the teachers conduct room checks. 21:30and lights-out. Key staff members will be on duty throughout the night to support children where necessary. The Après Ski Session

Packing List We recommend that children bring the following for the 6 day programme: Comfortable trousers, for general activities (2) T-shirts (3) Sweatshirt/long-sleeved shirt for layering (2) Fleece-style pullover/sweater Underwear (7) Ski socks, to reach above ski boots (6) Long thermal underwear (2) Pyjamas All-purpose shoes Outdoor, après-ski boots Wash-kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo etc.)

Bath towel Laundry bag Ski hat Waterproof ski gloves Small backpack suitable for skiing with (minimum straps) Sunglasses and ski goggles (100% UV protection) Waterproof sunscreen and lip balm (SPF 25+) A Book for relaxation/down time Water bottle (0.5 litre+ capacity) Swimming cap and costume All clothing and personal effects should be marked with the pupil’s name. Pupils should understand the importance for caring for their personal property and expensive items should not be brought on the trip.

Mobile phones Mobile phones will NOT be permitted on the trip. In our experience, not having a mobile phone results in happier children, who have a happier trip. They will be having too much fun to speak to parents. Feedback: Timing Peer pressure Upset parents Money and re-charge

Telephone policy Incoming calls to pupils will not be allowed unless it is an emergency. Telephone numbers provided are for emergency purposes only and parents of pupils should be aware of this.

Opportunities for parental updates The Alps and the localised weather which we experience, has the potential to cause internet disruptions on occasion. Please do be rest assured that no news is good news. We will always contact you with regards to physical and emotional issues if required. DESS takes the health and safety of all traveling children very seriously. The Ski Trip is run during term time to ensure that two way communication is always available. DESS runs a highly successful Facebook page for parents and friends to engage with, whilst children are abroad. We will continue to run this service and will place up-to-date photos and information here on a regular basis.

Passports & RP’s The PE department will require a photocopy of your child’s original passport to complete checks prior to the departure of this trip. Original passports will not need to be submitted to the PE department and you should ensure that your child’s passport and all other travel documentation are brought to the airport on the day of departure. In line with new Residents Permit guidelines, all valid Residents Permits must be in the travelling passport for each child. We have been informed that all travel documentation must have a period of at least 6 months validity prior to the return date in order to guarantee safe travel.

Visas Parents are responsible for organising visas and travel documentation.

Safety Equipment If your child is participating in snowboarding activities, protective wrist guards are also available for purchase at the resort. The use of helmets is compulsory, whilst on the slopes.
