Who’s In Control Here? Governance: The system that establishes and enforces the laws and institutions of a society; some governments are controlled by a few people, and others are controlled by many. 75B01C-3C51-45C8-8DB3- 716D04CB6FD0&blnFromSearch=1&productcode=UShttp://player.discoveryeducation.com/index.cfm?guidAssetId=75 75B01C-3C51-45C8-8DB3- 716D04CB6FD0&blnFromSearch=1&productcode=US

Human-Environmental Interactions People affect the environment and the physical characteristics of their surroundings and how the environment affects them. Environmental Issues –Pollution –Acid Rain –Littering –Car emissions –Smog

Where Are Things? Location: When we study geography we are studying where things are located. Maps help us determine location. What are the 2 major types of maps? –Physical –Political Let’s look at a map and LOCATE the continents and oceans.

Pop Quiz Without talking, get out a scratch sheet of paper. Correctly label your heading. Name Date Class Period Continent Pop Quiz 1.Answer 2.Answer 3.Answer

Continent – yellow lines Oceans – blue lines

Exploration and Relocation How many of you have lived in another city, state, or country? –Why did your family move? –Were there any differences or similarities in the locations? Movement and Migration: The movement of people from one country or region to another in order to make a new home.

Production, Distribution, and Change Economic Systems –Command –Market –Mixed –Traditional Distributor: person who brings the goods to the people. Producer: a person who makes products that are used by other people. Consumer: a person who buys goods and services.

Time, Continuity, and Change Something New This Way Comes Just as jeans have changed over time, so, too, has American culture. Cultures change all the time. Because culture is a total way of life, a change in one part changes other parts. Changes in the natural environment, technology, and new ideas affect culture and every aspect of our world.
