 Your counselors: ◦ Ms. An (A-Lit) ◦ Ms. Zavala (Liu –Z) ◦ Ms. Polidano (AVID Transition)  Your AVID teacher: Mr. Gerry Wang  Your AVID Class: 3rd period in H107

 What is it?  A daily class that will help you stay on track and assist you in becoming the best student you want to become. ◦ Guided study groups with academic mentors twice a week ◦ AVID curriculum twice a week focusing on establishing good study habits ◦ Fun Friday

 In AVID, students are motivated to take the most rigorous courses. By 11 th grade, all AVID students are advised to take AP classes.  By senior year, AVID students get individualized help with college applications, financial aid, scholarships, etc.  First-generation college students get the guidance and assistance needed to be successful in college.  AVID students get to visit college/university campuses.  Weekly guided study groups give AVID students academic support to do well in core classes.

Student Goals Academic success in college-preparatory courses. Successful completion of college eligibility requirements. Enrollment in college-prep courses throughout high school to ensure enrollment in a four-year college or university upon graduation. Student Responsibilities I will take responsibility for my own learning and for maintaining satisfactory citizenship and attendance in all my classes. I will maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in all academic classes or will be placed on a probationary contract. I will maintain enrollment in all college-prep courses (including honors and Advanced Placement). I will attend summer school as needed to take additional coursework and/or to raise my grades to maintain my college eligibility.  I will be an active learner, be prepared for all classes with all assigned work completed, take Cornell notes, keep my binder in order and be an active participant in all activities. I will come to AVID class prepared for study groups by bringing higher-level questions, my AVID binder with Cornell notes, and my textbooks. I will ask questions to help my peers and collaborate with my classmates and academic mentors to find the answers to my own questions. I will participate in extracurricular activities and community service. Parent Responsibilities 1. I will attend meetings and workshops provided for AVID parents. 2. I will monitor my student’s grades on Power School. 3. I will contact my student’s teachers with questions or concerns as necessary..

 Having a PS account will allow you to: ◦ check attendance ◦ check grade ◦ monitor assignments ◦ set up notifications
