AVID Center is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. AVID Center was founded to support and oversee the AVID System first created by Mary Catherine Swanson in 1980.  AVID today impacts more than 1.2 million students in 44 states and 16 other countries/territories.

10 AVID Expectations • Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and satisfactory citizenship and attendance in all classes • Maintain enrollment in college preparatory classes (Pre-AP/AP) •Maintain an AVID three-ring binder (with calendar/agenda, Cornell notes, assignments in all classes, and Tutorial Request Forms). • Be an active learner, be prepared for all classes with all assigned work completed, take Cornell notes daily, and be an active participant in all activities (athletics, UIL, Academic Team, Clubs, Student Council, NJHS). • Complete all homework assignments (commit to at least 30 minutes up to two hours of homework every night). • Participate in AVID in class tutorials at least twice a week. • Participate in AVID field trips and activities.

Encourage tutorials before their grades are too low Encourage your child to be an advocate for themselves and their grade Check on their grades often Check on their binders Ask about their day Participate in Family Nights

Interest Survey and Written Interview Due by Thursday December 15! Oral interview with an AVID Site Team member after you turn in your written packet
