Faculty St. Bernard’s High School

St. Bernard’s Catholic Schools Mission Statement Founded in 1912 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, St. Bernard’s Catholic Schools serve the students and families of Humboldt and neighboring counties. The schools offer a safe, spiritually enriching, and academically challenging environment that prepares our students to contribute to our world as Christian leaders with compassion, confidence and integrity. Supported by a caring community and a dedicated faculty, the comprehensive curriculum and college preparatory program offers a broad-based education that meets the needs of a diverse student body while reflecting the teachings of the Catholic Church and promoting Christian moral character.

Social Studies Department Catherine Scott has served as the Department chair for three years. She teaches U.S. History and World History. Ms. Scott earned her Bachelors in History from the University of California at Santa Cruz and her teaching credential from Humboldt State University. Jim Lennon has taught history at SBHS for many years. He currently teaches Honors Government/Economics, Government/Economics, Honors U.S. History and World Religions. Mr. Lennon earned his bachelors from San Francisco State University and his teaching credential from Humboldt State University.

English Department Michael O’Brien has served as English Department Chairperson for three years. He teaches Honors English 12, English 12, Honors English 11, Honors English 10 and Film Studies. Mr. O’Brien earned his Bachelors degree in English from the University of California, Davis and his Masters in English Literature from Humboldt State University.

Math Department Cathy Maher has taught at SBHS for many years. She is currently the Chairperson of the Math Department but has also served as English Department Chairperson. Mrs. Maher teaches Algebra II, Honors English 9, English 10 and English 11. She earned her Bachelors degree from HSU and her teaching credential in English, German and Math were also earned at HSU. Mr. Carassco teaches Geometry, Algebra I, Pre-Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus. Mr. Carassco earned his Bachelors degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his masters in Mathematics from Humboldt State University.

Science Department David Michael is the Department Chairperson for Science. He earned both his Bachelors in Biology and his teaching credential from Humboldt State University. Mr. Michael teaches Physics, AP Biology, Biology I and Honor Biology I. Scott Meredith is new to SBH this year. He teaches Integrated Science.

Art Department Pam Olsen has been department chairperson for two years. She teaches Ceramics, Art Foundations and Internet. Mrs. Olsen earned both her bachelors degree in Fine Arts and her teaching credential from Humboldt State University

Spanish Department Melissa Brisso has been department chairperson for three years. She teaches all the Spanish courses at SBH. Sra. Brisso earned both her bachelors and her teaching credential from Humboldt State University. Sra. Brisso also completed her masters in Spanish from Sacramento State University.
