2 Course Request 2016-2017

3 You will be entering your course requests for the 2016-2017 school year. We will use your course requests to create the master schedule. You are not guaranteed enrollment in each course you request. Students who request and are assigned JOURNALISM will not be permitted to drop the course for any reason next year.

4 Directions: Upperclassmen: the course request process is the same as last year Course requests for next school year will be completed entirely online Course requests can be entered online beginning today and must be completed in your NetClassroom account by Friday, February 19

5 *Sophomores and Juniors will register for courses on their own time *Counselors will visit Freshmen English classes this week to assist with course requests

6 Course Request Timeline: Students and parents discuss courses and enter schedule into NetClassroom (2/16-2/19) Teachers will approve online (2/22-2/26) Parents will approve online (2/29-3/04) If parents have concerns about class levels they should contact the teacher or your counselor before March 4 th. Guidance counselors will review course requests starting on 3/07

7 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS: 24 CREDITS NEEDED FOR GRADUATION Religion = 4 credits (9,10,11,12) English = 4 credits (9,10,11,12) Math = 4 credits 1 must be Algebra 2 (9,10,11,12) Science = 3 credits 1 must be Biology (9,10,11,12) World Cultures = 1 credit (10) American History = 1 credit (11) American Government/Economics = 1 credit (12) Physical Education = ½ credit OR PE Waiver (9,10,11,12) Health = ½ credit (9,10,11,12) Computer Science = ½ credit (9,10,11,12) In addition to Mobile Computing Fine Arts = 1 credit (9) Students will select elective courses to fulfill the number of credits required

16 Health and PE All students must complete 1 semester of Health class All students must complete 2 semesters of Physical Education class OR 2 seasons of athletics OR 2 years of Marching Band OR 1 year of Band AND 1 season of athletics *See your counselor immediately if you have questions about the PE Waiver. Computer Science All students must complete a semester of Computer Science. Mobile Computing does not count toward this requirement.

17 Complete course requests on NetClassroom. Directions and course request worksheet were emailed to you.

18 REMINDERS! A complete schedule fills 7 bells. You may only sign up for 1 Study Hall per semester. All electives offered are listed on the back of the recommendation worksheet. Some electives require the teacher’s approval. Course descriptions can be found on Naviance under the courses tab. There are prerequisite courses required for some subjects. Check course descriptions for information. If you are interested in playing sports in college don’t forget about NCAA eligibility when choosing your classes. See your counselor if you have questions.

19 Remind your parents to go online February 29- March 4 to approve your course requests.
