The Anti-Reality Art Movement

History of Surrealism Since the Age of Enlightenment, artists and authors had occupied themselves with reason and reality. Since the Age of Enlightenment, artists and authors had occupied themselves with reason and reality. Just prior to WWI, however, a new movement began in which artists and authors created works that defied reason. This was called the Dada movement, and it was from this movement that Surrealism is rooted. What is Surrealism? Surrealism is an artistic and literary movement which flourished between WWI and WWII, and is seen more as an escape from reality than an argument against serious thought.
