STAGE 1: Project Assessment Aboriginal Considerations: Land use Study or Cultural Map A Comprehensive Community Plan Economic Development Plan/Strategy Community HR Database Research on Activity in Territory

STAGE 1: Project Assessment Business/Developer Considerations: Pre-Feasibility Studies Identify First Nations, Inuit or Métis Communities in the Area Consult Early - Consult Often Potential Memorandum of Understanding

STAGE 2: Project Plan and Design Aboriginal Considerations: Gather Information on Companies’ in Your Territory Access Resources to Help with Consultation Develop Consultation Protocols and Process

STAGE 2: Project Plan and Design Aboriginal Considerations: Negotiate Agreements (MOU, IBA, etc.) Identify Job and Business Opportunities and Joint Ventures Secure Funds for Training Participate in Permit and Approval Processes

STAGE 2: Project Plan and Design Business/Developer Considerations: Establish Committees and Planning Teams Fulfill Consultation and Accommodation Duties, Industry Guidelines or Policies Full-Scale Feasibility, Environmental, Baseline Studies Outline Jobs and Economic Opportunity Obtain Proper Permits and Approvals

STAGE 4: Project Operations Aboriginal Considerations: Monitor Agreements Address Recruitment and Retention Issues Leverage Successful Employment and Business Development Hold Regular Community Meetings Build Diversified Economy to Keep Jobs

STAGE 4: Project Operations Business/Developer Considerations: Implement and Fulfill all Agreements Support Community Needs Through Corporate Social Responsibility Overall Management of the Project (Financial, Reporting, HR Issues, etc.)

STAGE 5: Project Wind Down Aboriginal Considerations: Identify Alternate Business and Job Opportunities During Closure Develop Workforce Adjustment Strategies Participate in Site Reclamation and Rehabilitation

STAGE 5: Project Wind Down Business/Developer Considerations: Closure, Remediation and Reclamation Help Build Toward Community Prosperity Hire Aboriginal Workers at Other Sites Establish a Good Reputation with Community
