Welcome to 5 th Grade! Mr. Rhee Room 29

5 th Grade – Camino Grove 5th Grade Teacher Team: Mrs. Bengford Mrs. Kim Mrs. Shahinian Mr. Rhee Camino Grove Website:

About Mr. Rhee This is my 13 th year teaching at Camino Grove. I have taught 4 th grade and 4/5 combo class. Schools attended: Grand Canyon University, Cal State LA, UC San Diego, Arcadia High, Dana, Camino Grove!

About Mr. Rhee, continued Thinking Maps will be used all year to organize our thinking! This is a basic circle map that defines who I am or what I enjoy. FAMILY

What to expect in 5 th grade More emphasis on being independent learners with more… Responsibility Problem solving Organization Proficiency in typing and technology skills

Core Plus Groups Groups will be flexible, allowing students to flow from one group to another. Students will receive core reading/writing instruction in their home room. Students will rotate (for 30 min) into skills-based groups.

MY Access Online Writing MY Access School Edition is an instructional writing and tutoring computer program that provides unlimited opportunities for students to write, revise, and learn. Sometimes, writing on MY Access will be assigned over the period of 1-2 weeks in which having access to a computer at home would be helpful, but is not required. Often students get so excited watching their scores climb that they are motivated to work on assignments at home!

Classroom Management Class rules and expectations are set with students and reflect a classroom that is learning. Classroom jobs teach responsibility and ownership. Mr. Rhee dollars are awarded every Monday for what I expect to be a great week of learning. The goal for students is to maintain the highest possible balance through each week (each week starts over with $10). Tickets are also awarded for positive behavior. $9-10 Green, $6-8 Yellow, $1-5 Red Positive reinforcement motivates students to make the wise choices.

Homework Policy Daily homework = 50 minutes Usually assigned Monday and due Friday. Assignments will be written on the board and in agendas. Avoid “missing assignment” forms! At least minutes of daily reading. Signed reading logs are due on Friday. Yes, you can take books home. Just bring them back! Online resources available. Arcadia Library Arcadia Library offers “Homework Help” on their website for grades Be sure to have your child apply for their very own library card! It’s easy!
