 Increasingly, educators are dealing with student populations that are geographically distant from the school and from each other. Also, as new cohorts of students come into the teaching system, many of them have grown up, or are growing up, in online, digital contexts, rich with social media, collaboration and gaming For both of these reasons, educators can look at virtual worlds as a possible teaching environment. Virtual world language learning

Virtual worlds are playing an increasingly important role in education, especially in language learning. By March 2007 it was estimated that over 200 universities or academic institutions were involved in Second Life

Almost all virtual world educational projects envisage a blended learning approach whereby the language learners are exposed to a 3D virtual environment for a specific activity or time period.

 Virtual worlds such as Second Life are used for the immersive, collaborative and task-based, game- like opportunities they offer language learners. As such, virtual world language learning can be considered to offer distinct learning experiences.

 Almost all 3D virtual spaces are inherently social environments where language learners can meet others, either to informally practice a language or to participate in more formal classes

Virtual worlds also have an advantage in that they provide students with access to a much wider range of people, speaking many different languages. In public virtual worlds, students can find groups of people with whom they have an affinity, or an interest in common, and can have authentic, meaningful conversations that improve their learning

Mobile learning technologies offer teachers-and students-a more flexible approach to learning, this is why Mobile learning its now on days implemented in many approaches used for language learning.

Computer labs are great But…

In 2001, Marc Prensky warned us, "Our students have changed radically. Today's students are no longer the people our educational system was designed to teach." He went on to describe how these "digital natives" are being exposed to more gadgets and technology than was ever thought possible. This is having a profound effect on the ways in which children learn. They are more engaged in learning when using the latest technological gadgets, because it is what they are most used to interacting with. Marc Prensky All round the world schools are seen The use of gadget like smartphones, tables, laptops, E-books, Ipods, etc. as an outstanding tool for a much greater learning.

 Students are more engaged and motivated to learn when they use mobile devices, and research shows that academic performances can improve. We as students & educators need to take note of this, and look for safe, productive ways to integrate mobile learning devices into our curriculums.
