Use of Visuals in Education Anupma Singh MarCom Specialist TheTemplateWizard

Why Are Visuals Important in Education? Visuals correspond to a profound human tendency of visualizing their thoughts. Once we understand the importance of visuals, we should be excited to take steps to use these when we are teaching.

Importance of Visuals in Education There are two main reasons why it is important to actually demonstrate the children what is being taught: Visuals assist learning. Visuals make learning more fun and permanent.

Visuals Clarify the Material Being Taught

In normal day-to-day living we learn: 3% through taste 1 3% through smell 2 6% through touch 3 13% through hearing 4 Sensory Stimulation Theory 75% through seeing 5

Although we use all our senses to absorb and retain the world, it appears that sight is the sense where most of our learning comes from. This proves that the most effective way to elaborate and bring understanding to what is being taught is to actually show the children.

Visuals Make Learning More Permanent:

Typically in 3 days we will remember 10% 35% 65% AudioVisualAudio-Visual

This tells us that if-as educators and teachers-we want to effectively have the children remember the lesson taught, we need to show as well as tell them.

Types of Learners: There are basically 3 types of learners: I.Auditory Learners II.Visual Learners III.Kinesthetic Learners

1. Auditory Learners 11% of people learn by hearing Auditory learners succeed when instructions are read aloud or information is presented and requested verbally.

1. Visual Learners 83% of people learn by seeing Visual learners benefit from presentations, charts & graphs, pictures, films, and written directions.

3. Kinesthetic Learners 6% of people learn by moving, doing, touching Kinesthetic Learners acquire information fastest when participating in a science laboratory, skits, field trip, dance, role playing or other activities.

Visual aids undoubtedly correspond to a profound human tendency to materialize their thoughts in the form of graphic or sonorous images. This also corresponds to the tendency of giving their thoughts a concrete frame of reference. Plato took care to set the scenery of his dialogues for reasons! He used concrete words and concrete comparisons (for example, the cave) as foundations for his most abstract ideas.
