3 VARK Learning Styles  Different Learning Styles: VARK Visual Learning (learn by seeing) ‏ Auditory Learning (learn by hearing) ‏ Reading/writing (learn by processing text) ‏ Kinesthetic Learning (learn by doing) ‏ Multimodal (multiple learning preferences) ‏

4 VARK Learning Styles  Visual Learning Visual learners learn by seeing Effective Presentation Techniques:  Videos, slides, graphs, charts  Lecturers may use hands gesture and vivid, descriptive language

5 VARK Learning Styles  Auditory Learning Aural learners learn by hearing Effective Presentation Techniques:  Discussion, lectures, record class lectures  Lecturers should ask questions, ask for discussion to engage aural learners.

6 VARK Learning Styles  Reading/Writing Learning Read/Write learners learn by reading and through note-taking. Effective Presentation Techniques:  Handouts, flyers, textbooks, notes  Lecturers should try and speak in fluid, coherent sentences with much attention to language and words.  Lecturers may distribute class notes and/or handouts

7 VARK Learning Styles  Kinesthetic Learning Kinesthetic learners learn through hands-on practice; they learn by “doing.”  Tours, hands-on approaches, field trips, role- playing  Lecturers should use real-life examples, provide practice exercises or examples

8 VARK Learning Styles  Multimodal Learning Multimodal learners learn in a variety of ways. They may be equally strong learners in several different areas. Effective Presentation Techniques:  Incorporate a wide variety of styles; lectures, slides and visual aids, hands-on practice

9 Presentation & Practice  Do a “walk-through” prior to class  Practice your own examples  Remember, students are not your “audience,” but are active participants in their own learning!

10 Planning & Preparation: Goals, Objectives & Activities  Objectives drive content  Have clear, concrete goals & objectives in mind  Be Realistic  Tangible evidence of learning  Articulate those goals & objectives to students
