2 2 Visual  Prefers using imagines, colors, pictures and maps to organize information  Easily visualizes objects, plans and outcomes in mind’s eye  Loves to draw, scribble, doodle  Systems diagrams can help visualize links between parts of a system  Typically dresses well

3 3 Teaching Tips - Visual  Using visual recall as a learning strategy  ‘Imagining' what something looks like so they can remember it  Following visual cues and landmarks during a journey or task  Watching a video or DVD  Looking at photos or images on a screen  Watching someone else perform a task or activity 3

4 4 Physical (Kinesthetic)  Learners  Prefer using ones body, hands and sense of touch.  One out of every three students are classified as kinesthetic.  Teachers need to be extra creative when applying a kinesthetic learning exercise.  Characteristics  Like to move around in the classroom  Unable to sit for long periods of time.  Enjoy activities such as “role play” or “drama”  Perform well in sporting activities and or dance.  Are sometimes classified as underachievers and hyperactive

5 5 Teaching Tips - Physical  Activities  Role playing and cooperative learning.  Have students work on Smart Boards and design projects on the computer.  Take advantage of any field trips to museums and any outdoor parks. Can have students search and collect rocks for a geography lesson.  Incorporate games into a lesson plan. Whoever spells the word correctly gets a prize.  Design a fun science experiment that shows different densities of liquids.  Have kinesthetic students teach a lesson to the class reinforcing their strengths and giving visual and auditory learners another way of absorbing information.

6 6 Auditory  Also known as Aural or Musical learners  Depends on hearing and speaking as a main way of learning,prefer using sound and music  Must be able to hear what is being said in order to understand and my find it difficult to follow written instruction

7 7 Teaching Tips - Auditory  Use verbal direction, group discussions, verbal reinforcement, group activities, reading aloud  Allow the students to complete an assignment using a rap, poem, or song  Allow students to record your lecture, in addition to taking notes

9 9 Verbal  Also known as linguistic  Prefer using words, both in speech and writing  These learners find it easy to express themselves both in writing and verbally  Love reading and writing. They know the meaning of many words, and regularly make an effort to find the meaning of new words.  Find mnemonics to recall lists of information.

10 10 Teaching Tips - Verbal Traditional lecture-based instruction works best for these students Verbal learners do well with lessons involving written or verbal communication, class presentations, or call and repeat strategies Allow students to read quietly to themselves Allow presentations as a form of grading

11 11 Logical  Learns best using logic and reasoning.  Characteristics  Recognizes patterns and connections between content.  Will classify and group information to understand it  Work through problems in a systematic way.  Often support points with logical examples or statistics.

12 12 Teaching Tips - Logical  Implement lessons that incorporate :  Problem solving  Logic games  Reasoning  Worksheets and charts/graphs engage these learners.  Have logical learners teach games to class such as chess.

16 Teaching Tips - Solitary  Give students the option to choose to work alone or with a group  Be prepared to answer questions that the student themselves cannot answer  Students will count on teacher or classmates to fill in the blank  Assign individualized projects  Can concentrate better  Allow certain time period in class for students to look over materials 16
