Properties Caitlyn Boehms

 Content area: Mathematics  Grade: 3  Summary: The purpose of the instructional PowerPoint is to allow the students the opportunity to learn about the properties of multiplication interactively.  Given a property, the students will be able to identify the correct name for the property  Content Standard: Operations and Algebraic Thinking  Accomplishment: Develop an understanding of the different properties of multiplication

Four Properties of Multiplication  Commutative Property: The product of the equation is still the same no matter the order of the numbers  Ex. 8 * 4 = 4 * 8  Associative Property: When 3 or more numbers are multiplied, the product is the same regardless of the grouping of the factors  Ex. 2 * (5 * 3) = (2 * 5) * 3

Continued…  Multiplicative Identity Property: The product of any number multiplied by 1 is that number  Ex. 9 * 1 = 9  Distributive Property: The sum of 2 numbers times a third number is equal to the sum of each addend times the third number  Ex. 5 * (4 + 3) = 5 * * 3

Question 1  Which property is 12 * 1? Associative Multiplicative Identity Multiplicative Identity Commutative Distributive

WooHoo!!

Question 2  Which property is 9 * (5 * 8) = (9 * 5) * 8? Distributive Multiplicative Identity Multiplicative Identity Commutative Associative

Great Job!

Last one!  Which property is 6 * ( ) = 6 * * 13 Commutative Associative Distributive Multiplicative Identity Multiplicative Identity

Way To Go!

Conclusion  You have just learned the different properties of multiplication

Incorrect!  So close! Let’s try again!
