Properties of Multiplication
2
Today I will be able to define associative property
Today I will be able to define associative property. Today I will be able to define commutative property. Today I will be able to define distributive property. Today I will be able to solve equations involving the properties of multiplication.
3
Commutative Property The commutative property which states that we can multiply any numbers in any order. A x B = B x A Ex: (-9) x 10 = (-90) 10 x (-9) = (-90)
4
Associative Property The associative property states that we change the groupings or order in which we multiply integers, and the product does not change. (A x B) x C = A x (B x C) Ex: ((-2) x 6) x (-9) (-2) x (6 x (-9))
5
Distributive Property
The distributive property lets you multiply a sum by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products. A x (B + C) = (A x B) + (A x C) (-8) X (4 + (-7)) = ((-8) x 4) + ((-8) x (-7))
6
Distributive Property
7
Distributive Property
The distributive property lets you break apart larger numbers into smaller numbers to more easily multiply. Ex: 8 x (-784) (8 x ((-700)) + (8 x (-80)) + (8 x (-4))
8
Identify the property (-98) x 102 = 102
12 x (-751) = (12 x (-700)) + (12 x (-50)) + (12 x (-1)) (36 x 12) x (-7) = 36 x (12 x (-7)) (-3) x (84 + (-25)) = ((-3) x 84) + ((-3) x (-25))
9
Practice solving using the properties
36 x (-25) = (-25) x 36 (10 x (-24)) x 3 = 10 x ((-24) x 3) (-72) x 1487 6 x ((-46) + (-21))
