Stop and Ask Questions It is a think tool to help you make sense of stories. Today you will practice “Stop and Ask Questions” You will use a sticky note to write a question that comes to mind and place it in your book.

Thinking About My Reading 1. REREAD a part of the book that you do not understand carefully and slowly 2. READ AHEAD and look for more information 3. STOP & ASK QUESTIONS about what you are reading, searching for answers before, during, and after reading 6

Individualized Daily Reading You will be reading silently for minutes. I will be conferring with individual students. You will continue to read fiction texts. Continue to pay attention to what you are learning and wondering as you read independently. At the end of IDR, I will ask you to share what you learned and wondered with the class.

Share Your Reading What is the book about? What is something you wondered as you were reading? What is something you learned? Did that make you wonder anything else?

Day 3 In today’s lesson you will: Hear and discuss parts of an narrative nonfiction book Identify what they learn from the book Wonder about the book Refer to the text to support their thinking Contribute different ideas and take responsibility for themselves 9:45

Discuss Lessons from Wilma Rudolph’s Life You have heard two biographies, one about Harriet Quimby and one about Wilma Rudolph. You as a reader can often learn a lesson from a person’s biography that you can apply to your own life.

What was Wilma Rudolph like? What did she do that showed what she was like? What did you learn about the way Wilma lived her life that you would like to remember and use in your own life?

Read aloud: Author’s Note This note provides more information about a subject This note in Wilma Unlimited, gives us information about what she did after she won her gold medals. Student Response Book page 23 Reread – This will give us a chance to notice information we may have missed the first time we read it.

Double Entry Journal p. 24 What did you learn about Wilma Rudolph from the author’s note? What do you wonder? Were any of the things you wondered about explained in the author’s note? What did you find out about them? What are some things you wondered about that have been explained?
