 Plain – without anything added or without decoration. Plain also means a “large area of flat land”  Differ – is different  Refreshing – it makes you feel fresh, lively, and strong again

 A birthday cake decorated with roses and the words “Happy Birthday” plain or not plain?  I think it is plain/not plain because…  A hamburger with nothing on the bun.  A t-shirt with a picture of a spider and a web on it.

 Plain can also mean a large area of flat land.  Plain is a word that has more than one meaning. You can usually figure out the correct meaning by thinking about how the word is used.  During our travels, we crossed an immense plain. The flat land stretched before us for miles. There were no trees, only acres and acres of grass moving with the wind.  During our travels, we ate plain food: bread without jam, meat without salt or pepper, and potatoes without butter. We were hungry, so even plain food was delicious.

 How does a weekend day differ from a school day?  How does outdoor recess differ from indoor recess?  How does Art differ from P.E.?

 Prefix re- means again  When you are hot or tired, what refreshing drink do you like? TTP  When I am hot or tire, a refreshing drink I like is…  Which is refreshing when you are dirty: a shower or going shopping? Why?  Which is refreshing when you are hungry: a snack or a nap? Why?

 I’m how you describe a person who is very excited and has a lot of energy.  I’m how you would feel if your pet goldfish died.  I’m what you do when you keep trying to learn something even if it is hard.  I’m how you describe a person who stays up late to her homework.  I’m a synonym for sad.
