BOSNIA- HERZEGOVINA By: Ariana and Kayla

SREBRENICA MASSACRE CAUSE/CONFLICT o 1995 o Some of the women were raped, while the men and boys who remained behind were killed immediately or bussed to mass killing sites. o Estimates of Bosnia's killed by Serb forces at Srebrenica range from around 7,000 to more than 8,000

PEOPLE KILLED o Serbian forces subsequently separated the Bosnian civilians at Srebrenica, putting the women and girls on buses and sending them to Bosnian-held territory. o Up to 7,500 men, and boys over 13 years old, were killed. They were trucked or marched to their places of death. Up to 3,000, many in the act of trying to escape, were shot or decapitated in the fields. cide&safe=strict&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj G7Nrl6NnKAhUGbj4KHdloA8QQ_AUICCgC&biw=569&bih=8 21#imgrc=jOf_YRBdcGgSsM%3A

DATES Bonian-Herzegovina annexed to Austria-Hungary Bosnian Herzegovina annexed by pro-Hitler Croatian puppet state. Thousands of Serbs, Jews and Gypsies are sent to the death camps.

REFUSE THE TRUTH o Russia refuses to describe Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Muslim men and boys during Bosnia war in 1995 as “genocide”

THE GENOCIDE o In July 1995 Serb troops and paramilitaries led by Ratko Mladic descended on Srebrenica and began shelling it. They had already dealt with Muslim soldiers in the countryside villages. Now they were besieging Srebrenica's thousands of Muslim civilians. /genocide_resources.htm

AFTER THE GENOCIDE o The first person to provide a hint of the extent of the killings was an American reporter, who risked his life to look for evidence and indeed was eventually arrested. (He was awarded a Pulitzer prize for his Bosnian journalism.) He was at risk not only from the Serbs but also from NATO, who resumed their air attacks (begun earlier in 1995 when the Serbs ignored a ceasefire ultimatum) in response to the tragic events at Srebrenica /Russia-blocks-UN-resolution-condemning-Srebrenica- massacre-as-genocide.html

THE NEW RESOLUTION o In 1999 the UN completed its own enquiry into the fall of Srebrenica, and faced its shame. 'Through error, misjudgment, and an inability to recognize the scope of the evil confronting us, we failed to do our part to save the people of Srebrenica from the Serb campaign of mass murder.‘

RESOLUTION o Britain leads condemnation as Russia deploys veto power to thwart recognition at UN that massacre of 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys 20 years ago was act genocide.

PLEDGE I pledge to spread awareness of genocide of my knowledge. In doing this I will try to make an impact by informing people of the massacres overseas and hoping this will spread and eventually put an end to mass killings everywhere.

PREVENT FURTHER GENOCIDE o The Peace Pledge Union (PPU) is the oldest secular pacifist organization in Britain. The organization has been working for peace and a warless world since This website takes readers through the events leading up to, during, and after the genocide in Bosnia.
