Today’s LessonSkill Development: Today you are going to create your interpretation of the artwork of Laurel Burch using watercolors and oil pastels to create fun ways of depicting cats. Introduction to abstract art Development with color and pattern to build out bright vibrant art. You will enhance your skills in: Pattern and repetition Watercolor wash Blending oil pastels Abstracted Cats

What is Abstract Art? Abstract art portrays what an artist feels and thinks, rather than what he or she sees. An abstract artist uses colors and shapes to express his or her emotions and ideas. Just as we do not know other people’s thoughts, we do not always know what abstract art portrays but if you ask the artist, he or she can explain the painting to you. Laurel Burch December 1945-September 2007

Abstract Art Examples: ‘Yellow, Red, Blue’ Wassily Kandinsky, 1925, Oil on canvas.

Abstract Art Examples: ‘No.1.’, Jackson Pollock, 1948, Oil on canvas.

Animals in Art Animals have been in art since cave walls ’Development II’, M.C. Escher, 1939,

’Animals in a landscape’, Franz Marc, 1914, Oil on Canvas Animals in Art
