2 A nimals have been a part of art since the first cave paintings. S ome artists have shown unique ways to portray animals, and today we will learn about a few artists who painted animals and plants; each in their unique style. F ranz Marc, Paul Klee’s and other artists’ animals H enri Rousseau’s Jungle Paintings

3 Franz Marc wanted to explain what artists at that time were trying to do. He wrote, “Today we are searching for things in nature that are hidden behind the veil of appearance... We look for and paint this inner, spiritual side of nature.”

5 R ousseau loved to paint exotic animals and plants. H e visited and studied the botanical gardens and parks in Paris for inspiration.

10  This week you can design and draw your own fantasy animals & choose which one(s) to include in your final art work.  You can make a variety of painted paper in analogous color harmony analogous color harmony to share with the whole class for cutting into colorful plant forms to collage and create a jungle.  You may look at ideas provided or make your own. Your plants and animals can be as fantastical as you like.  You can use oil pastels, crayons, drawing pencils, sketch and watercolor paper and watercolors for a mixed media work of art.  You can distinguish between foreground and background, understand basic color harmonies and how to contrast light and dark colors to make the background appear further back and the foreground appear closer.  Can learn new vocabulary and a lot of it is right here!  We’ve got a busy week ahead so let’s find our seats and pay close attention to instructions.
