Presentation transcript:

The conflicts and settings of a book influence the development of literary heroes because the problems in the book will give the hero a reason to become different from everyone else and they will do something heroic and influence the development of the hero.

MLK affected culture and society by fighting for equal rights in society. Even though he was going to be put in jail and eventually killed in the line of duty for equal rights. His death saddened the whole country, he represents freedom and justice to millions of people around the world. In his honor American society celebrates Martin Luther King day on January 15 th,the day of his birthday. (“Dr Martin Luther King Jr”)

A hero represents his time period and geographical area because the time periods change, if MLK was fighting for civil rights in this time period there was be no point because in this time period mostly everyone is equal in America now. A hero represents a geographical area because if MLK was fighting for civil rights In the north there would be less of a point, because the south was more racist then the north.(Martin Luther King Jr pg 2)

Cultures recognize there heroes by rewarding them with awards, making statues of them or self gratitude and being looked at by other people as a hero. MLK was rewarded with a noble peace prize in 1964.Along with the prize MLK also got $ which he donated all to the furtherance of civil rights.(“Martin Luther King - Biography.") Also people were eventually rewarded with equal rights with a lot of help from MLK.

There are many characteristics that make my hero, Martin Luther King a hero.MLK used non violent techniques, he used speeches to get the word about civil rights spread across the south. Martins house was bombed in 1956.When he walked onto the porch he said “Don’t get panicky. Don’t do anything panicky. Don’t get your weapons. If you have weapons, take them home. He who lives by the sword will perish by the sword. Remember that is what Jesus said. We are not advocating violence. We want to love our enemies. I want you to love our enemies. Be good to them. This is what we must live by. We must meet hate with love.(" Montgomery Bus Boycott”)

Yes this person would still be considered a hero. This person is viewed as a huge icon in the world of civil rights going from city to city to spread to the south about how African Americans were being treated in the south.Everywhere they went in public the facilities were “separate but equal” in reality they were not equal just separate. When brown vs. board of education overturned the “separate but equal” law. (Carson)

I learned that he was very intelligent. MLK entered college when he was only 15, he graduated 7 years later with a PhD in theology. King was not only a leader in the civil rights movement he also was named the president of the southern Christian leadership conference, he traveled miles and made 208 speeches. King published 2 books in 1958 and also in 1964.(“Martin Luther King Biography”)

Yes I think he would still be a hero but not as big as he is now because he was killed while traveling for a peaceful march in Tennessee. Lots of important heroes in the civil rights movement were not killed while trying to fight for equal rights, for example Rosa Parks was a huge hero in the Montomgomery bus boycott and she died of natural causes at age 92. ("Rosa Parks Interview”). Dr. King would have been a hero even if he died of natural causes just like Parks.

King affected millions of people with his role in the civil rights movement. Martin Luther King has helped us all to be more aware of racism and spread the word of racism across the nation with his speeches. Martin has made a huge difference, and helped overturn the Plessy vs Furgerston case of “separate but equal”. King is still considered a hero today and has a day dedicated to him on his birthday January 15.(About Dr. King)
