Homework Children thrive on routines and consistency. Just like there is a schedule in school, sometimes it is a good idea to have a schedule at home. For example snacks, outside playtime and then homework. Also having a special spot to complete homework equipped with pencils and other supplies will help ease your child into the routine of completing his/her homework. Your child will be assigned nightly homework. Each night your child will bring home their homework notebook, (which I refer to as the orange dot notebook), an orange folder, Journeys and Math in Focus workbooks (you may want to cover with clear contact paper so the covers don’t come off) and a planner all of these items must come back and forth to school everyday as they are also used in class as well. A homework schedule will be sent home to each week complete all assignments assigned for that day. On the workbook pages you child should write the date instead of their name. Please sign homework and reading log nightly. Also please do not remove homework schedule or charts, which get attached in notebook or planner. Sight Word Baggies will be sent home and should be practiced and returned daily. In addition each child will also bring home a bag of books that matches their reading level please have your child read nightly and return it to school daily.

Book Shopping Schedule Monday-Table 1 & 2 Tuesday- Table 3 & 4 5 & 6 Thursday- Free Shop/Makeup Day Friday- Free Shop/Makeup

Behavior Management As a class we have agreed to certain behaviors that we expect from each other everyday. Please ask your child about the behavior we all expect of each other. In their homework (take home) folders on the other side of their reading log will be a calendar where they will color in the circle that corresponds to the place on the chart they were that day. (A letter will follow giving a breakdown of Class Dojo as well as our class behaviors). Please sign each the box each night and discuss with your child how their day was. The students also have an opportunity to earn rewards for class compliments and table compliments. Also ask your child to tell you about the mystery walker and top ten leaders.

Meeting to Discuss Your Child I am always happy to meet with you to discuss any questions or concerns you may have as the year progresses and this year I am very excited about the additional time, which has been built into the teacher’s day. In addition to my professional periods (see Weekly Prep Schedule) I will also be available on Tuesdays after dismissal to meet with you. If you do require to meet with me the best way would be to send in a note and I will respond with times in which I am available to set up an appointment.

Dismissal It is import to follow the dismissal procedures as there are two grades being dismissed from the area. Please wait behind the fence in the big schoolyard near Major Ave. Keep the walk way clear. We will come out Exit 2 rain or shine, at exactly 2:20 pm each day. Please do not remove your child from the line. Wait until the entire class has reached the dismissal spot. The dismissal spots are marked on the fence as to where our class will assemble. Please make an appointment to discuss any academic or social matters with us; we cannot discuss them in public. We must receive a note in the morning if someone new is picking up your child or if your child is not taking the bus. If you are late, check the dismissal spot first then make your way to the auditorium for your child.
