BELL WORK 8/24 1. PICK UP A BELL WORK PAGE AND ONE SHEET OF COLORED PAPER FROM THE FRONT TABLE. 2. ANSWER THE MONDAY BELL WORK QUESTION. 3. READ OR GO TO AN UNFINISHED LAB STATION IF YOU ARE FINISHED EARLY.

0707.Inq.1; 0707.Inq.2 Students will be able to describe the tools, skills, knowledge, and dispositions needed to conduct scientific inquiry. Can I design and Conduct an open-ended scientific investigation? Am I able to identify the difference between controls and variables? Am I able to select tools and procedures to conduct a complex experiment? Scientific Method Introduction Video

SCIENTIFIC METHOD NOTES Follow Mrs. Bullard’s directions for folding the paper. Label each flap: Purpose Research Hypothesis Experiment Data Conclusion

CLASS RESEARCH Each group will be given a step in the Scientific Method to research. You will be come an expert on that part of the SM, and then teach what you know to the class! As each group presents, we will write down the important information in the foldable!

PURPOSE Determine your problem or ask your question of interest

RESEARCH Find information about your topic using encyclopedias, textbooks, and Internet

HYPOTHESIS Think of a possible answer to your question based on observation & research (“If…, then….”)

EXPERIMENTATION Test your hypothesis. Design an experiment that will show if a factor causes an outcome./

DATA Collect data during experiment. Keep clear records and use tables and graphs to display data when appropriate.

CONCLUSION Draw a conclusion to determine whether the data supports your hypothesis. (Communicate)

EXIT CARD What step comes after Purpose? Why is this step important?
