Adjective Order There is another acronym you need to memorize in order to know and understand the order of adjectives.  DOSSAC OMQ D- Determiners O- Observations and Characteristics S- Size S- Shape A- Age C- Color O- Origin M- Material Q- Qualifier

Adjective Order Determiners  There are 6 different determiners. Possessive Adjectives A/An/ The Demonstrative Adjectives Indefinite Adjectives Interrogative Adjectives Numbers

Determiners Possessive adjectives always start the list of any adjectives.  My big black dog ate the cat.  Our red car was stolen last night.  My mom said, “Your backpack is over there.”

Determiners A/An/The  A/An Singular/ one of many, indefinite  The Definite/ Specific There are a few exceptions when it comes to using A/An/The:

Don't use A/An/The for class subjects  “The biology is hard” or “A biology is hard” are both incorrect. Don't use A/An/The for countries  You don't use “The Japan” or “A Japan” Words with United/Republic/Union, use “the” Words that start with silent H, use “an”  An hour, an honor, an herb, a horse, a hippo If the word has a “U” sound, then use “a” If not the use “an”  An umbrella, a unicycle, The universe
