2 What are Adjectives? - Adjectives are modifiers. They modify nouns or pronouns. This means they change the image of a noun or pronoun. - You can usually find adjectives if you ask: Which one? What kind? How many? How much?

3 * Picture a car in your head* * Red, fast, and goofy would be the adjectives because they describe the car. Now make it fast! Now make it red. Now make it look goofy.

4 Kinds of Adjectives Descriptive adjectives- tell quality, condition, appearance, shape, color, etc. Quantitative adjectives- tell the number or amount. Demonstrative adjectives- point out which nouns. Possessive adjectives- tell the ownership or possession of nouns. Interrogative adjectives- introduce direct or indirect questions

5 Proper Adjective -One type of descriptive adjective is called the proper adjective. -Proper adjectives come from proper nouns. This means that they will always be capitalized. -Proper adjectives sometimes form by adding a suffix to a proper noun.

6 Examples of Proper Adjectives: Proper Noun: America Mexico France China Proper Adjectives: American Mexican French Chinese

7 Location of Adjectives Adjectives can be located in three places in a sentence. 1.The most common location is directly in front of the noun it is modifying. Ex: the handsome prince, the furry dog 1.Another location is after a linking verb or verb of condition. Ex: The performance was amazing. 1.The final location of an adjective would be after a noun when it is set off by commas. Ex: The book, well-written and suspenseful, kept my interest.

8 To find an adjective you need to locate the nouns first! *REMINDER* An adjective answers: Which? How many? What kind? Which one? Can you pass me that book? How many? Belle has one book. What kind? Anna dislikes the cold weather.

9 You can use more than one adjective to describe a noun. The monster was big and blue. (big and blue are describing the monster)
