A bystander is someone that does not speak up or act when they see acts of intolerance taking place; rather they go about their own business. An UPSTANDER is someone who takes action when they see it! ~ Positive Survey Results and Bullying legislation.

* Do not have to say a word, their actions can do the speaking. * At some point in school, every kid becomes a bystander ….chose to be an UPSTANDER. * Martin Luther King Jr. “ in the end we will not remember the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

* Help others who are being bullied * Stop untrue or harmful messages from Spreading * Get friends involved * Make friends outside of your circle * Be aware of the bullying policy at your school and keep it in mind when you witness bullying.

* If someone is new at your school, make an effort to introduce them around and make them comfortable * Refuse to be a bystander * Respect others differences and help others to respect differences * Seek out teachers or other staff to help report and reduce bullying in school * Learn more about bullying.

* Don’t join in on the Bullying / conversations * Support the victim later in private * Stand with the victim and say something * Encourage others to stand up to the bully * Befriend the victim and reach out * Alert an adult * BE KIND

* Every three weeks the advisory rotation will be a character trait or community building message. During that time, an announcement will recognize UPSTANDER awards. * An UPSTANDER will be rewarded for their willingness to standup and take action or display positive and kind behavior.
