Paragraph 1 Explains reasons why the Indians wanted to live on the Plains: buffalo, hunting grounds, they believed it was sacred ground, had adapted their lifestyle to the Plains, they wanted to be free. Explain reasons why the homesteaders wanted to live on the Plains: persecution/poverty in Europe or East America, ex- soldiers from the Civil War, ex-slaves from the South looking for a new start, drawn in by the opportunity of free land, lack of land in the East. Conclude by answering the question directly: Did they have the same reasons? They all wanted to be free but had different elements pulling and pushing them to live on the Plains.
