LIFESTYLE FACTORS IN HEALTH HEALTH EDUCATION CLASS

EXAMPLES OF LIFESTYLE FACTORS  Personal behaviors and habits related to the way a person lives that determine his/her level of health.  Get between 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night  Eat nutritious foods from the various food groups each day  Refrain from smoking and using tobacco products

EXAMPLES OF LIFESTYLE FACTORS  Eat breakfast daily  Do 20 to 30 minutes of nonstop vigorous activity a minimum 3x/week  Do not use alcohol or other drugs  Maintain your desired/recommended weight How many of these basic health habits do you practice regularly? What changes in habits can you make?

THE THREE ELEMENTS OF YOUR HEALTH 1.Physical health – the way the parts and the systems of your body work together to achieve a condition called homeostasis.

THE THREE ELEMENTS OF YOUR HEALTH 2. Mental/Emotional health – feelings about yourself, how well you relate to others, and how well you meet the demands of everyday life.

THE THREE ELEMENTS OF YOUR HEALTH 3. Social Health – involves the way you get along with others. It includes your ability to make and keep friends, show respect for others, and work cooperatively to get a job completed. THINK ABOUT YOUR HEALTH. IDENTIFY THE ACTIVITIES AND BEHAVIORS YOU DO TO CONTRIBUTE TO EACH OF THESE ELEMENTS

10 LIFE SKILLS 1. ASSESSING Your Health. How healthy are you? It will help you to evaluate your health as well as those actions and behaviors that can affect your health.

10 LIFE SKILLS 2.COMMUNICATING Effectively. This skill will teach you good communication skills, which include knowing how to listen and speak effectively. These skills will help to improve all of your relationships.

10 LIFE SKILLS 4. COPING. Dealing with troubles effectively helps to deal with difficult times and situations plus troubling emotions that may accompany these times.

10 LIFE SKILLS 5. Being a wise CONSUMER. Buying products or services is a life skill that will help you make wise decisions in buying health products and services.

10 LIFE SKILLS 6. Evaluating MEDIA messages. Public forms of communication have a significant influence on what you learn about the world. Analyzing and making informed health decisions help to make better decisions in the end.
