Safe Places Scheme

What is Safe Places? If something goes wrong when a vulnerable person is out and about in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, he / she can get help at a SAFE PLACE bullied lost feel ill hurt u

Why are Safe Places needed? 9 out of 10 people with learning disabilities experience hate incidents in their day to day lives and this makes them scared to go out and access businesses and facilities in their communities. Safe Place schemes have been set up across the country to help vulnerable people go out into their communities with a greater degree of confidence knowing that they can get help if they need it.

Safe Places logo Some shops and buildings in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have agreed to be a Safe Place. Look for this sticker in the window. They can help.

Get a Safe Place Help Card Ask for a Help Card. Write the name and phone numbers of people to contact. Take your card with you when you go out.

What happens at a Safe Place? Show the staff your Help Card Tell the staff what has happened if you choose The staff contacts the person on the card Wait at the Safe place until you feel better or your contact arrives

What happens at a Safe Place? People who work in the Safe Place have agreed to: Get the help that is needed Be friendly and welcoming Listen and try to understand what is happening Provide a safe place to wait for help to arrive

What will the Safe Place do? If you are ill or in danger the people at the Safe Place will help you dial 999 for the police or ambulance.

More benefits All Safe Places receive full training on how to communicate with and treat people with learning disabilities, with further training on disability hate crime. All Safe Places given a pack with all relevant information. All incidents to be logged on log sheet, to be returned so we can monitor the scheme, and pass on any hate crimes.
