An Introduction to NETS*S standards for students Bainbridge Island School District August 5, 2004

The standard areas Basic operations and concepts Social, ethical, and human issues Technology productivity tools Technology communication tools Technology research tools Technology problem-solving and decision-making tools

Standard area description Technology research tools Use the computer to search the Internet for information or other sources Use technology as an information gathering tool Use technology as a process for creating, collecting, and sharing information. Use technology to evaluate and select new resources or tools for research and presentation.

Performance Indicator & Single Content Area Use technology as an information gathering tool: Use content-specific tools,software, and simulations (e.g. environment probes, graphing calculators, exploratory environments, Web tools) to support learning and research in Science. Your assignment: Use your water quality probe to measure the pH of Sakai Stream/Woodward Creek Record your findings on the Excel template on your PDA. Leave your muddy boots outside the classroom door to avoid activating the kid cleaner system.

Interdisciplinary Connections and Assessment Your assignment will be graded based on the following components: Science - Demonstrates understanding of the concepts of pH (acids and bases). Math – Effectively analyzes and displays data. Language Arts – Writes a comprehensive report outlining findings.
