2 Using the Internet to Achieve ISTE NETS for Students Creativity and Innovation: Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making: Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Technology Operations and Concepts: Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations.

3 Students Using the Web as a Tool The Web as an Information Source- numerous ways to search the Internet for information. The Web as a Collaboration Tool- share documents The Web as a Communication Tool- Email, web-based phone calls, and video conferencing

4 Teachers Using the Web as a Tool Content Management- making materials available to students electronically (Blackboard) Connecting with Parents and the Community- email, school and classroom websites, and making the classroom accessible to parents Professional Development- video presentations etc.

5 Appropriate Practices for the Web District Policies- acceptable use policies (includes uses of the Internet, responsibilities, acceptable and unacceptable behavior, consequences, parent notification, access). Classroom Policies- what is allowed in the classroom Copyright Issues- protects an author’s work from being stolen

6 Using the Internet with an NTeQ Lesson Do not plan to use Internet tools just because they exist or are fun. There must be a relationship to the objective. There are two instructional purposes for Internet use: searching for information and posting information for others to read and review. We have a responsibility as teachers to teach our students how to evaluate and select credible information on the Web.
