3 CREATIVITY Ability to invent new solutions to problems or to create original or ingenious materials Idiot Savant: a person who has mental retardation or autism yet exhibits extraordinary skills or brilliance in a particular field

4 MENTAL RETARDATION IQ score at or below 70
Mild Retardation: IQ between 50 & 70 Difficulty walking, feeding themselves, talking Can read and do math problems May need occasional guidance

5 MENTAL RETARDATION Moderate Retardation: IQ between 35 & 49
Cannot read or do math problems Down Syndrome Severe Retardation: IQ between 20 & 34 Constant Supervision Respond to training in basic self-help tasks May understand speech

6 MENTAL RETARDATION Profound Retardation: IQ below 20 Causes
Barely communicate May show basic emotional responses Dependent Causes Brain Damage Genetic disorders Pregnant women who abuse alcohol, drugs or malnourised
