2 2015-02-19 OMSC © OMSC History The Sports Club has been in existence for over 80 years –December 1928 Staff Club formed –February 1936 Old Mutual Sports Club established –May 2002 Sports Club became an independent operation from Old Mutual –2008 In partnership with Oude Molen High School sharing sports facilities. –2010 In partnership with WPCA sharing indoor cricket facilities. WPCA women’s home fixtures played at Mutualpark –2011 Still growing after 75 years and serving Old Mutual staff’s sporting and recreation needs.

3 2015-02-19 OMSC © Driving Principles Mission –To be a first class indoor and outdoor sports club providing first class facilities for it’s members. Vision –The VISION of the OMSC is three-fold: To continuously provide adequate sporting facilities and services of the highest standard to all members; To promote the development of all sport within local community at grass- root level; and To ensure that the Sports Club remains financially sustainable. To attract new members and develop individuals to achieve at the highest level.

5 2015-02-19 OMSC © Management Structure The OMSC is managed by an Executive Committee, consisting of the following members: –Chairperson : Eddie Scott (non-staff – WM) –Vice-Chairperson : Charles Milne (Staff – WM) –Secretary : David Owen (OM Pensioner – WM) –Treasurer : Jed Brand (staff – WM) –Burt Williams Golf (Pensioner – CM) –Graham McGuire Soccer (non-staff WM) –Cheryl Bradley Hockey (non-staff WF) –Raymond Esterhuizen Women’s Cricket (Pensioner – CM) –Nigel Daniels Inter Departmental Sport (staff – CM) –Old Mutual Representative : Khanyisile Chaba (staff – BF) OMSC Operating Staff is made up of the following: –5 Coloured males –2 Coloured females –2 Black males –1 White female –2 White males

No other facilities can boast all- weather and top quality fields such as these found at Mutualpark. –Have of the best lights for night-time sports. –Have a professional full-time team looking after the fields. –Are easily accessible by road and rail transport. –Able to cater for multiple sporting codes, simultaneously. –Are enjoyed by visiting international social teams. –Are used by the Provincial Bodies, numerous schools and other sporting bodies. –Attract interest and are used by touring groups locally, provincially and internationally.

12 2015-02-19 OMSC © Old Mutual Inter-Departmental Sports The OMSC provides the facilities for, and coordinates the following inter-departmental sports activities for Old Mutual staff: –Cricket (5 teams, 75 players) –Darts (5 teams, 32 players) –Golf –Running and walking clubs –Soccer (Mens & Ladies) (16 teams, 240 players) The OMSC also provides the following services –Committee meeting facilities –Function facilities –Market Day –Social and Team Building facilities –Tuck shop

13 2015-02-19 OMSC © Membership Statistics Numbers: –The OMSC boasts a membership of over 2,800, of which 1,444 are Old Mutual staff members. –7% (203) of members are juniors. –12% (347) of members are pensioners. League/Social –More than 50% of members play in formal league sport, whilst 12% use the OMSC for inter- departmental sports. –Regularly produce sports people who participate at provincial and national level.

15 2015-02-19 OMSC © Membership Growth The OMSC grew from strength to strength, as shown in the increase in membership over the years. This is due to: –Excellent sports facilities. –Excellent recreational facilities. –Low membership costs and ‘value for money’ of services offered. –Club sustainability. –Future planning. The recent downturn is due to: –Loss of facilities at Mutualpark. –Uncertainty of the Golf Club –Uncertainty in respect of lease agreement with Old Mutual.

16 2015-02-19 OMSC © Membership Demographics OMSC does not only cater for local sportspersons. Members of the OMSC come from far and wide to enjoy the fantastic sporting facilities offered: –70% within 15km –15% within 20km –10% within 30km –5% further than 30km OMSC

17 2015-02-19 OMSC © Sport Development OMSC is actively involved in the development of sports, within nearby communities and local schools: –Hockey: youth development program – provision of coaches –Soccer: facilities for Vodacom development teams –Soccer: six junior academy teams, 2 under 9 teams, 1 under 7 team –Cricket: primary school night cricket –Athletics: fun runs, and community organised events –Golf: promotion of golf for juniors –Tennis: provision of facilities to local schools –Squash: provision of facilities to local schools –Oude Molen: provide facilities at Oude Molen to promote and develop sport. Includes indoor cricket facilities in partnership with WPCA and an Astro-Turf Hockey field

18 2015-02-19 OMSC © OMSC/Oude Molen Agreement with the OMTHS signed 2008 –Need for additional sports facilities to supplement OM facilities –OMSC need to be more community involved –Symbiotic relationship established –Facilities created, utilised and upgraded: ONE ASTRO TURF HOCKEY FIELD WITH FLOODLIGHTS 3 SOCCER FIELDS, ONE WITH FLOODLIGHTS 2 RUGBY FIELDS – EXISTING 2 CRICKET FIELDS 1 x 400 m ATHLETICS TRACK 1 NETBALL COURT – COST TO TAR CAR PARK ON WHICH THE COURT IS LOCATED 3 INDOOR CRICKET PRACTICE NETS TEA ROOM/CLUBHOUSE CHANGE ROOMS, TOILETS & SHOWERS

19 2015-02-19 OMSC © Social Upliftment/Involvement Sports Club –Employment and assistance for Study Junior Staff – Assistance in IT studies Multi-skilling to expand personal horizons –Charities Golf Club donates to various charities –Use of facilities by the following schools: Brackenfell High School Cannon’s Creek Independent School D.F. Malan High School Fairbairn College Kensington Junior School Maitland Garden Village Pinelands High School Pinelands North Primary School Rustenburg Girls High School Tableview High School W.P. Junior Schools –Partner WPCA to develop cricket at all levels

20 2015-02-19 OMSC © National/Provincial Representation The OMSC boasts the following sporting achievements: –Athletics Good representation in major national events –Cricket Co-hosted World Veterans Tournament Ladies cricket team boasts most provincial players and SA players –Women’s Cricket 2 SA players Numerous provincial players Administrators at WP and national level Hosting of Provincial games –Hockey 5 SA players Provincial players Hosting visiting overseas teams –Soccer Numerous provincial players Produced 3 captains of the SA Amateur Soccer team –Softball 6 SA players Numerous provincial players Hosted Veterans Inter-Provincial tournament –Squash Co-hosting of World Masters Squash Tournament WP Masters Club-of-the-Year World Veterans Squash Champions Hosting of SA Navy Championships –Tennis Representation for Boland Tennis –General Many of the Club’s teams have won League and K.O. competition honours

21 2015-02-19 OMSC © Future The OMSC continues to strive to meet its defined Mission and Vision by –Providing top-class sporting facilities. Negotiate longer term management agreement (lease) with Old Mutual Acquiring additional sporting facilities to handle sport demands (ie, soccer, astro hockey, cricket) –Increasing sports development activities within the greater community and previously disadvantaged areas. –Continuing to provide high quality of service and facilities to Old Mutual. Establishing a closer working relationship with Old Mutual Creating a positive awareness of OMSC within Old Mutual –Creating sporting relationships with Old Mutual clients as part of broader relationship building exercise. –Putting “Old Mutual” back into the OMSC
