What can you infer from Edwards’s investment about his confidence in the success of the Texas colony? – He had enough confidence in the settlement to ask for a large enough piece of land for 800 families.

5 Law of April 6, 1830 1. How did settlers in Texas react to the law of April 6, 1830? – They were alarmed because they depended on the trade with the United States 2a. How was immigration affected by the law? – Banned immigration from the United States 2b. Which provision of the Law of April 6, 1830, would generate revenue for Mexico’s government? – It placed duties and taxes on imported goods 3. Why would Mexico welcome European settlers to Texas but not American settlers? – The Europeans would agree more with the Mexican government.

What happened when Bradburn tried to collect taxes on ships on the Brazos River? – Small skirmish broke out 3. Who was arrested in May of 1832 and why? – William B. Travis and Patrick C. Jack for spreading false rumors 4. What effect did the arrests have on the relationship between Mexico and Texas? – The skirmish at Anahuac took place and led to some distrust

What were they? – Turtle Bayou resolutions: to support Mexico but not the Mexican government, Support Santa Anna, free the prisoners, and release Bradburn 7. What happened when Bradburn asked other Mexican commanders for help in fighting the Texans? – They came to help but then turned on Bradburn and helped Texas

8 Turtle Bayou Resolutions 1. Why did the Turtle Bayou Resolutions support the Federalists of Mexico? – The Anglo Americans supported the Mexican Constitution which was Federalist What were the resolutions? – Declare loyalty to Mexico but not the Mexican government, support Santa Anna

9 Texans Seek Change 1. What change in the Mexican government took place between the two conventions? – Santa Anna became President, Bustamante was forced out 2. What were the goals of the conventions of 1832 and 1833? – Gain independence from Cohuila y Tejas, no taxes on imported goods for 3 years, and allow Anglo Americans to settle in Texas 3. How was the Convention of 1832 helpful in preparation for the Convention of 1833? – It adopted resolutions from the year before

10 Austin’s Mission to Mexico 1. What leadership qualities did Stephen F. Austin show in dealing with Mexico? – He was organized, willing to solve problems, and could communicate well with Mexico 2. Why did Austin go to Mexico City? – To get a new contract for land, and to help create Texas as it’s own state in Mexico 3. Why was Austin arrested? What happens after Austin is released from prison? – Arrested for Treason, wrote a letter saying lets create a government, he had to wait a few months before returning to Texas.
