2 Pre-College Ed This report contains an update on the Region 2 Pre-College Education activities.This report contains an update on the Region 2 Pre-College Education activities. –In calendar year 2010, Region 2 is active in supporting Pre-College Education. –Sections are holding activities with schools, but the info doesn’t flow back to the Reg representative as requested (see slide 6).

4 PRE-COLLEGE EDUCATION ACTIVITIES FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2009 SNJ SectionSNJ Section Ocean City High School Observatory ProjectOcean City High School Observatory Project Sponsor: Joe Burns, SNJ  Ocean City Education Foundation formed 3 years ago to raise funds for the project announced Feb 10, 2010 that it had raised $50K to date  IEEE Foundation awarded a $12K grant to the OCHS Project, Jul 2009  Other fund raising efforts are expected to meet the goal of $100K in funds and donated services to build the observatory  Construction to begin late Spring 2010 Robot ChallengeRobot Challenge Sponsor: SNJ WIE  5 High Schools in Southern NJ registered for this event  1 st competition to be held Apr 2010 with 40 robots

5 Other Pre-College Ed Events in Reg 2 Baltimore SectionBaltimore Section Jersey Shore Science Fair, at Richard Stockton CollegeJersey Shore Science Fair, at Richard Stockton College Robot Competition held every year for 16 years Held every March with 450 students participating; SNJ IEEE officers and many members serve as judges

6 Pre-College Ed REG 2 Activity Report in Region 2Activity Report in Region 2 –Per request of Committee Chair at Spring 2009 meeting, Reg 2 Coordinator asked for inputs from Section Chairs on Pre College Ed activities in the sections in Reg 2 to populate our data base of Pre College Ed activities. No response from sections was received after two requests were made.No response from sections was received after two requests were made.
