3 Vocab 0 Seam- a line along which two pieces of fabric are sewn together in a garment or other article 0 Overlock-strengthen and prevent fraying of an edge of cloth by over sewing it 0 Hem-a method of finishing a garment to where the edge of a piece of cloth is folded narrowly and sewn to prevent unraveling 0 Seam allowance(inlays)-is the area between the edge and the stitching line on two pieces of materials

5 History 0 The bound seam was used mostly used in Central Asia and Eastern Europe in the 16 th century because it was simple. 0 Flat-Felled seams are more complicated but they are extremely strong seams and good for unlined garments which were common until the 20 th century. Commonly used on denim. 0 The French seam is used for silk, linen, and underwear and is done by sewing the wrong sides then the right sides
