3 Are approaches to weight control that are popular for a short time. They come and go but rarely have any lasting control. Some cost a lot of money.

4 Grape fruit diet Cabbage diet Hollywood Diet Akins Diet Jenny Craig No Carb diet South Beach diet

5 The cycle of losing, regaining, losing and regaining. Also called Yo-yo dieting. It may be less healthy than being slightly overweight because body fat burns fewer calories than muscle do.

6 Avoiding food or fasting. For healthy, growth, and energy, you need a fresh supply of nutrients daily. Without food energy the body uses its own muscle tissue for energy.

7 High protein and low carbohydrates can have serious effects. Requires warning labels from the FDA. Using this as the only nutrients can result in serious health problems and even death. When using this approach you should be under medical supervision.

8 Claim to “burn,” “block,” or “flush” fat from the system. May help control the appetite but can have very serious effects. They may cause drowsiness or even produce anxiety.

9 In today society we have an obsession about being thin. Why do people today want to be physical fit? What influences the way we look at ourselves?

10 Is a disorder in which one starves themselves and will refuse to eat or eat very little.

11 Extremely low caloric intake Obsession with exercising Emotional problems Unnatural interest in food Realistic or distorted sense of body image Denial of an eating problem

13 Is a disorder in which cycles of overeating are followed by some form of purging or clearing of the digestive tract.

14 Eating Large amounts of food Wanting to eat in privacy. Eating unusually large amounts of food with no obvious change in weight. Alternating between overeating and fasting. Rarely eats normal meals.

15 It’s all-or-nothing when it comes to eating Frequently disappears after meals or takes a trip to the bathroom to throw up. May run the water to disguise sounds of vomiting. Using laxatives, diuretics, or enemas after eating. Smell of vomit. Excessive exercising

16 Calluses or scars on the knuckles or hands. Puffy “chipmunk” cheeks. Discolored teeth Frequent fluctuations in weight

17 This should not be taken lightly. If you believe a friend is having this problem tell a school nurse or councilor school. Try to encourage the friend to get help DO NOT TRY TO COUNSEL THEM YOURSELF!!!!
